Week 9 College Football Looking Back 1. Miami at Louisville - exceptional football game, Miami pulled it off, but fun to watch. Almost 100 points put up and 4 td’s in the 4th quarter. Does this help Miami legitimize Miami’s story yet? 2. Indiana wrecked Nebraska 56-7- no one thought this would happen. Nebraska defense was on their heals the entire game. Dylan Raiola showed his lack of experience, throwing 3 interceptions. Indiana just curb stomped Matt Rules Cornhuskers. 495 yards of total offense by Indiana. 3. Tennessee 24-Alabama 17- the first half was pretty low key, with only 7 points scored by Alabama, Tennessee was actually looking rough. 3 turnovers. That changed in the second half, Tennessee scored twice, going up 14-10. Really came down to discipline on Tennessee side, and them wearing down Alabama enough to win. They were able to run the ball, and defensively they got plenty of stops. 4. LSU beat Arkansas 34-10: I thought we had a potential upset only our hands going into the week. Arkansas has played some good football, but they did not play well on Saturday. 3 turnovers and 15 first downs as compared to 25 first downs for LSU. That does not win games. LSU held Arkansas to 38 yards rushing on 19 carries. 5. Georgia 30 Texas 15- taking Quinn Ewers out of the game sure did spur some conversation during and after that game, but later Sarcquisian made it clear that Ewers is his starter. But even the manning name doesn’t scare the bull dogs. Carson Beck wasnt even really on his game, he threw 3 interceptions. Georgia stuck to their running game and solid defense, blowing out Texas in the first half 22-0. Hard to come back from that, but Texas tried. Scoring all 15 points in the 3rd quarter, but not getting any fiurther than that. 6. Iowa State barely beat UCF 38-35- iowa state allowed 354 rushing yards against UCF, they are ranked #10 the highest ranked big12 team. They better tighten up that run defense if they are gonna win in the playoffs Questions of the week: Lets take a look at the potential conference Championship situation: SEC- Texas A&M and LSU are unbeaten, Georgia, Tennessee, Mizzu, Texas and Vandy are 1 conference loss. ACC- Clemson, Miami, Pitt, SMU, unbeaten, but Duke Syracuse and Virginia Tech can still write their own ticket with 1 loss B1G- Indiana, Oregon, Penn State unbeaten, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio State- 1 loss Big12- BYU, Iowa State- unbeaten k-state, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Colorado 1 confrence loss AAC- Army, Navy, Tulane are all in the running, since none have lost a conference game Others - safe to say no other conference champs will make playoffs just because of the dominance of the ACC so far. Do UNLV or Boise State make it in? It comes down to highest ranked G5 conference winning team in the committee’s poll. UNLV plays Boise State Week 9 Games 1. #8 LSU at #14 Texas A&M- both of these teams are exceeding my expectations so far. I think they are on par with analysts. TAMU only loss is to Notre Dame, while LSU lost to USC. Both undefeated in conference play. One will get out alive. 2. #5 Texas at #25 Vanderbilt-Texas gets stuck with Vandy on their schedule 3. #21 Missouri at #15 Alabama- Mizzu at 6-1 has barely floated by the last several games they’ve played. Especially against any Power 4 team. 4. #12 Notre Dame at #24 Navy- Notre Dame has the #5 Scoring Defense in the country only giving up 12 points per game on average. They are not exceptional against the rush though. Giving up 113 yards per game, ranked 30th in the country.. 5. Washington at #13 Indiana- Indiana should win this game easily. Washington played Iowa, who lacks consistency on offense yet put up 40 points. 6. #20 Illinois at #1 Oregon- if Oregon can beat Ohio State, you’d think they will be fin against Illinois. Purdue put up 49 against Illinois. 7. #22 SMU at Duke- I’m surprised that Duke is not ranked right now. Both teams are 6-1 contending for a spot in the ACC championship. SMU does p
