Ham Radio Crash Course Podcast

Josh (KI6NAZ) of the Ham Radio Crash Course YouTube channel, and his wife Leah (KN6NWZ), talk about suburban life raising two boys in Southern California with a ham radio and preparedness twist in this podcast. Content includes the Ham Radio Minute where Josh gives a short ham radio tip, they read reviews and emails from listeners, share a drink review, Leah takes on practice exam questions for ham radio licensing exams while Josh tries to explain them to her, and they dive into a longer ham radio topic. A segment about suburban preparedness was also recently added.
More then Ham

I passed my technician in January and wanted to dive into all things Ham radio. After finding a video of Josh showing how Technicians can do POTA I looked more into HRCC and found the podcast. It was a roller coaster of emotions during my first listen. I was expecting all Ham and got a story that started with a holiday parade and ended with a Swat team. I almost bailed on the whole podcast when I was forced to hear about Z is for Zachariah but after a few minutes I was hooked and needed to know how this terrible movie was going to be ranked. I’m currently going back and listening to older episodes and will be pretty disappointed when I run through them all and I’ll have to wait for a new one to drop. 70 3’s KB2POB
Top of the heap for ham radio podcasts

Great show that balances technical info as well as how ham interfaces with other aspects of life (preparedness, film, culture).
Solid Podcast

Josh and Leah bring a wide variety of great points related to amateur radio from an unbiased point of view. They mix in some non-radio related topics which make it interesting for my wife (when I make her listen) and I appreciate Leah’s Preparedness Corner. I like how regardless of the topic of discussion, they almost always find a way to relate it back to radio. With all subjects they discuss they bring comedy into it and always keep things level and real! I love the show! 73- K8RTS

I just noticed your reply to my one star review. Ok, I was a. little harsh. I guess your explanation about Douglas Adams is ok, and yes Andor is very good. Honestly I found your podcast looking to get more into amateur radio, and got hooked hearing Lea's laugh. I appreciate all your work to share ham radio, preparedness info. and other random stuff, even the movie reviews. You are both great, though of course Lea's laugh accounts for a few of the stars. I teach electronics /automation/ computers/ networking, and have a General license. I use wireless for industrial applications, drones and rc with students, and teaching. I have not done much ham stuff, but you both inspire me to get more active with the amateur world! ======. old review below ======= Douglas Adams doesn’t seem British and “star wars “ acolyte featuring lesbian space witches looks great? Is this movies for morons?
Leah makes the Podcast

Let’s face it. We could get Josh’s input on a better platform. The real gift of the HRCC podcast is the addition of his wife, Leah. Her perspectives as an outsider to ham radio enlivens the show and provides valuable perspective on how the rest of the world views us radio nerds. Thank you, Leah, for your time and input. Of course, the interaction of the couple is frequently entertaining, so I guess Josh isn’t totally useless! ; ) -The Travelin’ Ham
The best mix of real life and the ham world

I came across this podcast while studying for my tech ham exam, and looking for fellow hams in CA with online content that was relevant to where I live. Through the podcast I found Josh’s other content and all of the pieces of the ham world connected to him. I have not only learned a plethora of ham knowledge, but I have also found “my people” of the ham world…busy bee parents of grade school kids trying to find the balance between personal hobbies and real life, where kids and all of their activities come first and our hobbies come at night into the wee hours of the morning 😅 I can relate to almost every single word connected to their family life antics and I’m constantly smiling and laughing along with them. Thank you Josh and Leah! Love it!
Ham Radio and Life

This podcast is educational and fun. Each episode contains a specific topic as well as ham adjacent ones with a lot of banter between the husband and wife duo. I like the mixture and it’s very entertaining for my non ham husband. I really enjoy hearing how ham radio fits in their daily lives especially in scouting. Keep up the good work.
