A secret plot. A public theft. A democracy corrupted. Discover the truth on Master Plan, winner of the 2024 Signal Awards for News & Politics and Best Writing. Hosted by David Sirota, former speechwriter for Bernie Sanders and Oscar-nominated co-writer of Don’t Look Up, Master Plan uncovers a deliberate scheme to legalize corruption in the U.S., enabling the wealthy to buy policies that serve them at the public’s expense. How did our democracy become a kleptocracy? The Lever has unearthed never-before-reported documents revealing this 50-year plot as a coordinated effort by wealthy individuals and political ideologues. Across 11 episodes, the series traces this historic thread from the Watergate scandal in the ’70s to the Citizens United decision, current Supreme Court outrages, and the 2024 election. It’s a story of infamous figures like President Richard Nixon, Senator Mitch McConnell, and Fox News founder Roger Ailes—plus operatives and oligarchs you’ve never heard of. www.masterplanpodcast.com

Excellent, but more dates, please

Excellent content, but I would really, really have appreciated more dates being added for key moments. This would have anchored the content and allowed it to flow more coherently. As it is, I constantly hear the mental static of, “now when was this exactly?” Thank you for the podcast!
Glad you’re here LEVER!

The most important investigative reporting in 20 years
٢٤ ربيع الآخر
Sirota returns to his roots as an investigative reporter and uncovers kind of what we all know - the plot to legalize corruption, half a century in the making. It’s a fascinating lesson, a ton of major linchpins in their plan, and you learn the calculus the Master Planners take, the opportunities they seize. My favorite episode is #6 on John McCain, whose politics I hate, but I always respected his imprisonment in Vietnam. I learned the major risks he took fighting Rs and Ds in Congress. The balls on him. It’s the most important story in a generation, probably more. Fingers crossed this reporting will bring down some of the titans of corruption. The Lever’s newsroom is one of the handful of actual reporters left. The only other one I follow is Democracy Now.
