The story is about Maud, a 70-year-old spinster who lives with and takes care of Bessie, her 90-year-old mother, who is suffering from dementia. The building, like the neighborhood has turned seedy. Maud’s family has moved out to the suburbs. Suddenly, Maud, who finds her excitement buying lottery tickets and hoping for a way out of her plight, finds she’s holding a ticket potentially worth $10 million.
