The level of this content is a balance of modern and traditional knowledge. The intention and purpose of my media is to bring sacred knowledge to a microphone. The digitalization of said dialogue is a tool I am using as a resource to preserve sacred wisdom. I am grateful for my skillset to resurrect our traditional teachings and to promote community awareness surrounding issues in Indian Country. My work so far has touched many lives. The podcast is a time capsule I am using to build a sacred library.

MMIW - Through the Yakama Lens with Emily Washines

MMIW - Through the Yakama Lens with Emily Washines

In today's episode,  we cover one of the most pressing issues in Indian Country today, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, also known as MMIW. You have probably seen some degree of activism via social media. The symbolic images of women with painted handprints covering their mouths is a representation of the voices of these women being silenced. On some reservations, Native women are murdered at more than ten times the national average.  This is an urgent matter that is killing indigenous people internationally.

In 2020, I express my world views about public policy, law enforcement, the judicial system, and the ways in which I believe the US government can do better to combat violence towards indigenous peoples. My guest Emily Washines is an expert in the field.

Emily is a Yakama Nation Historian, Scholar, and MMIW advocate. I am super excited to sit down with Emily and delve into the importance of Native Women in leadership roles, conveying the importance of MMIW in academia, and the prosecution flaws within the American Angelo legal system. The intersectionalities of these topics have a great deal in how we interpret solutions to resolve the MMIW crisis.
