Great History Podcast

A charming and informative podcast. I have been a history buff since before I could read. I love every episode.

Before the podcast started covering WW1 there were a lot of episodes devoted to cultural matters like ballet and science. Those were all fantastic. Since the podcast has been covering WW1 (and the Mexican Revolution) the focus has been on military and political history.

Some good episodes to check out are #8 (The Dreyfus Affair), #33 (An episode that deals with the Russo-Japanese War but the B-plot is how General Nogi deals with the loss of his sons), #45 (deals with a ballet dancer - not a topic I thought I would find engaging, but there I was, engaged), #52 deals with radio operators and touches on the Titanic, #54 is fun if you care about astronomy or science fiction, #55 is a great one dealing with Mexico, #113 recounts a - an eccentric Englishman who decides that he’s basically Indiana Jones in wartime.

The more recent episodes deal with WW1 and the Russian Revolution. Kornilov was only a name on a map to me before listening to this podcast. Fantastic stuff.

The podcast is currently focused on WW1/Russian Revolution which is fantastic. I hope that once the narrative threads of military and political history get sorted out there will be some episodes that can contextualize them.

What a great show. Thank you Mark.

EcronT ,

Thoroughly enlightening!!

I have listened now for over two years, and should have written this review a long time ago.
I cannot recommend Mark Painters work highly enough. As a fellow engineer he has rounded out already many gaps in my knowledge of events and people who shaped this and the last century.
I eagerly look forward to each episode weekly.

El Negro Perro ,
