    005 Problem with Perfectionism

    005 Problem with Perfectionism

Welcome to the end of the world! Want to buy some art? Want to donate some money to an arts organization?? No? I don't blame you. It is tough to navigate this wild time as a creative person trying to survive (mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially) during a pandemic, anti-racism uprising, climate crisis, and more. It is especially difficult if you have internalized the characteristics of white supremacy culture -- like perfectionism. In this episode, Claire discusses her thoughts around perfectionism in the time of Covid-19 + breaking up with social media.

Tune in for a conversation, a peek into Claire's messy mind, and maybe feel a little less alone if you're struggling to feel relevant in the world we are currently inhabiting.

003: Transforming Failure + Negativity -- Or what I learned from Michael Jordan

003: Transforming Failure + Negativity -- Or what I learned from Michael Jordan

In this episode, Claire offers some key insights she took from a recent heatwave-driven binge of The Last Dance, the new-ish Michael Jordan doc-series on Netflix. While Claire isn't a big sports fan, there is still something to be learned from a person who excelled (beyond almost anyone's expectations) to become the greatest that has ever lived.

What can we learn as creatives from the greatest basketball player (arguably the greatest athlete) of all time? Honestly a lot, from working through failure to keeping commitments, we will take a look at how Michael Jordan was able to be the best in the world at his craft.

002: MY HONEST MESS with CLAIRE

What does it mean to be an Honest Mess?

In this deeply personal episode, Claire delves into her Honest Mess story -- where the phrase came from and what it means to her. She talks about her journey with self-care, the challenges that sprung up in the last two years (during her Saturn Return) including relationships, friendships, mental/physical health, finances, and more, as well as how she has worked through the multiple "rock bottom" moments she has found herself in.

Honestly amazing

Really wasn’t sure what to expect from a podcast titled Honest Mess, but I binged the first three episodes while mopping out my laundry room and bath. It was so amazing! I’ve gotten more out of Claire’s straight talk than any other wellness podcast. She’s light and fun while being fully raw and honest and giving great advice. Definitely subscribed and recommending to all my friends! Aren’t we all a bit of a mess right now? Let’s get honest.

Sincere and helpful

I really enjoyed this first episode. I come to discussion of self care and self improvement with some skepticism. While I fully believe in the importance of both, public discussion around these topics can (for me) sometimes feel sanitized, sales-y, or insincere. Claire is none of these things in her open-hearted and clear discussion about the patterns of behavior that have affected her personal and creative life. It takes a lot of courage and skill to successfully convey such complicated dynamics while also giving the listener a few clear take-aways to think about after the episode is over. Looking forward to the next episode.
