Episode 10: Worship in the Dark with Lindsey Dennis

“We began to ask those questions that…you kind of can answer theologically maybe before you experience something. But then when you experience something like this, it really matters…Will I worship him in the darkness and will I trust that something beyond what I can see is going on?” -Lindsey Dennis
Lindsey Dennis recounts her experiences of losing two precious daughters, Sophie and Dasah, and the comfort she found when she gave herself permission to ask God difficult questions and accepted His invitation to worship Him in the dark.
Lindsey Dennis is married to Kevin and mother of 5 sweet children– 3 in heaven and 2 in her arms today. She is the author of Buried Dreams: From Devastating Loss to Unimaginable Hope, where she shares her journey of knowing God through the loss of her first two daughters. Episode 8: Resurrection Hope with Lianna Davis

Episode 8: Resurrection Hope with Lianna Davis

…It's talking about the death not being able to hold Jesus. But then it says, “God raised him up, loosening the pangs of death.” So it's like this mixed metaphor where death is seen as giving birth. And because of Jesus, death had to give birth to life. It couldn't do anything else, but deliver life because it's Jesus who died.
    - Lianna Davis

In this episode, Kristin Hernandez is joined by Lianna Davis to discuss the hope the resurrection of Jesus holds for believers, the bodily resurrection we too will experience one day, and how this can provide particular comfort to those who have lost a baby. Lianna shares her story of walking through the death of her firstborn daughter, Noelle, how her relationship with God grew during that season, and of the hope she found in the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Lianna Davis is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute (BA) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MATS). She is the author of Made for a Different Land: Eternal Hope for Baby Loss, has written a Bible study on the book of Jude, and has contributed to various published works and websites. Lianna makes her home in Illinois with her husband and second daughter. Her firstborn enjoys glory.

Episode 7: Chapters of Community with Brooke Schuelke

Episode 7: Chapters of Community with Brooke Schuelke

“If you feel called to do this ministry, you can trust that Jesus will equip you to do it. You don't have to have everything together. You don't have to be this perfect person who has leadership skills and who has speaking skills and organizational skills. He equips you as you do it, and He empowers you and gives you the strength.” - Brooke Schuelke
Brooke Schuelke, Hope Mommies Chapter Coordinator, shares the story of losing her firstborn daughter, Blair Nicole, and the vital role community played in her earliest days of grief and beyond. Brooke and Kristin discuss the undeniable bond grieving mothers share, God’s gift of friendship, and the ins and outs of Hope Mommies’ local chapters.
Brooke Schuelke lives in West Texas with her husband, Clint, and three living children. She also has a daughter in heaven. Brooke is the Chapter Coordinator for Hope Mommies and founder of the West Texas Chapter. In addition to serving with Hope Mommies, Brooke spends her time leading Bible Study Fellowship, volunteering as a youth leader at her church, and coaching her kids’ basketball teams. In her spare time, you can find her at the lake with family, chatting with friends over coffee, shopping online, planning the next getaway with her family, or snuggling on the couch with her kids. She loves doing ministry work and lives her life on mission to spread the hope of Jesus to others in and outside of her home.
*Update: We unintentionally mixed up a few dates regarding the launch of Hope Mommies' Chapters. Amy Munoz was the founding president of the Dallas Chapter, which formed in January 2015. The Albuquerque Chapter formed later that same year, under the leadership of Susan Rominger. Hope Mommies always strives to bring you the most accurate and helpful information and we apologize for the mix-up!

Episode 6: Wrestling with God with Kristin Hernandez

Episode 6: Wrestling with God with Kristin Hernandez

Wrestling with God can be uncomfortable but has the potential to lead us into greater intimacy with Him. But what does it mean to wrestle? How do we wrestle in a way that honors God, rather than in a way that draws our heavy hearts away from Him?
In this episode, host Kristin Hernandez delves into the topic of wrestling with God while navigating the heartache of grief and loss. We discuss what it means to wrestle, the difference between wrestling with God and walking away, biblical examples of wrestling and lament, and the permission we’ve been given to engage God with our difficult emotions. We also explore practical guidelines on how to wrestle effectively: through prayer, seeking God's word, being honest with Him, and remaining connected to community.
If you are wrestling today, you are in good company. You do not need to be afraid to admit if your heart feels troubled or if you’re faith is being tested. We invite you to join us as we wrestle together, and as we cling to Jesus, man of sorrows, who understands our grief and draws near to us in our pain.

Episode 5: Just Be Honest with Clint Watkins

Episode 5: Just Be Honest with Clint Watkins

“Lament is God’s invitation to be honest: you do not need to silence your questions for the sake of sounding more spiritual. The Lord commends your protests as faithful participation in a fractured world.” - Clint Watkins, Just Be Honest: How to Worship through Tears and Pray without Pretending
What would it look like to pour out an honest lament before God? Why do we so often feel the need to hide our frustration from Him and others? In this episode, Kristin Hernandez is joined by Clint Watkins, Hope Dad and author of Just Be Honest, to explore the concepts of lament, biblical grief, and being honest with God. Clint shares the story of his hope babies, Eli and Rowe, and the deep grief he experienced as both a husband and a father. We talk about scriptural examples of lament, the importance of bringing our pain to God, and the difference between groaning and grumbling.
Clint Watkins is a missionary to college students serving with DiscipleMakers, a campus ministry based in Pennsylvania. Having suffered the devastating loss of two babies, he writes to help fellow sufferers find hope through the gospel and being honest with the Lord. He lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with his wife Jillian and their third child, Conley.
