Pride Can Destroy You

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon recounts a powerful personal testimony about how pride led to his downfall. He has a troubling dream of a massive tree reaching the heavens, providing shelter for all. Suddenly, a divine messenger commands that the tree be cut down, leaving only a stump. Disturbed, Nebuchadnezzar seeks interpretation, and Daniel reveals that the tree symbolizes the king himself—his greatness will be stripped away due to his arrogance. He has only one message for him ''Repent.'' Despite the warning, Nebuchadnezzar remains prideful. A year later, as he boasts about his kingdom, a voice from heaven declares his judgment. He is driven from his throne, loses his sanity, and lives like an animal for seven years. Only when he acknowledges God's sovereignty does his sanity and kingdom return. This chapter serves as a stark warning: unchecked pride leads to destruction, but we also learn something beautiful - humility before God restores us. God knows our hearts and sometimes we do need to be broken in order to breakthrough.

Not Going To Bow To Your Idol

Who will you obey in this life: God, or man? This is an easy answer when everything is going great, but when life gets hard it may take a bit more to obey God and stand strong in your faith. The message from Daniel 3 will show us a very extreme example, when the king of Babylon gives an ultimatum to all that are in his kingdom, including Daniel and his three friends: Obey the king's decree, or die it's that simple. And the death will be awful--in a fiery furnace, which is used for making weapons, (like a smelting furnace. There is no middle ground with this decision, and this is true in our lives as well. The decision to stand on your faith, and not give in to the world around you, may be a one-time decision, but it will take daily commitment. I can only hope that you will never face death for standing for your faith in Christ, but when you look at this story, you see that God takes care of His people. Whether they live or die, they are with the Lord, (this is true for us as well). So, let's listen to the account of three brave men who stand for the one true God, no matter what, and then be reminded that we can do the same. In the end, (like in the story), God gets the glory!

The King's Dream

Have you ever had a dream that was a bit scary, then you woke up? Minutes later you have a hard time recalling the dream, and then further in the day you have no memory of it except that it was a terrible dream, and you wish that you could recall it. Perhaps maybe make some sense of it. This may be what is happening in the life of King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. If you read the text carefully you see that possibly he cannot recall the dream, and in his culture if the gods sent you a dream and you couldn't remember it, this meant they were angry with you. And an angry god could spell the end of your kingdom! Nebuchadnezzar was a warrior king who built his kingdom on conquest, and his city was built to be impregnable, so any enemy could be kept out. So, remembering such a terrible dream, and then having it interpreted correctly is very important to him. Daniel has the answer, and Daniel does not use books or the stars or divination. Daniel prays. And he seeks the God of Heaven, the God above all gods and the only one who can solve the mystery of the king, because God is the one who sent the dream. If God sent the dream, then God has the answer. Enjoy the message today and then ask yourself, where do you go when you are deeply troubled and think all that you enjoy in your life may be coming to an end?

Faith To Trust God's Way

"STANDING STRONG" —THE BOOK OF DANIEL Faith To Trust God's Way Today we will start a good study of one of the most interesting books in the Old Testament, Daniel. When I mention this book name there is no doubt that many stories from this book come into your memory: The Fiery Furnace, The Lions Den, The Vision of The Son of Man, and more. When I was young there was a song we would sing, a kid's chorus, called "Dare To Be A Daniel". Some of these stories are fantastic and involve great faith and not giving up. Here is the question, can I be like Daniel? His name means in Hebrew, "God is my judge". When Daniel lives and trusts in the God, no matter what is going to happen to him, the judgment will be good for Daniel, and God will take care of him. This is what he believes, and this is what happened. We have these great examples of the people of God in the Bible, so we can see that in the same way God can take care of us. In the first chapter, we see the beginning of the life of Daniel and his friends, in Babylon. The King is attempting to assimilate them into the culture, even changing their names to reflect the gods of Babylon. Daniel decides not to accept the king's food and wine, as these were probably offered to idols. They will only eat vegetables and drink water, and this will be for three years. God blesses them with healthy looking bodies, and they are rewarded by the king. This is the beginning of the faith journey for Daniel....and for us.

Consecration, Portrait of a True Christian

In this the third week of "Consecration", we take it to the next level. For if you have presented your body to Christ as a living sacrifice and are using your gifts to build the church up in unity, it is good to have some reminders of maintaining this each day, and in such a way that you reflect Christ. If you want to know what this looks like, you will hear it today from Pastor Bogdan. If you have ever gone into an art museum you may find some religious art which depicts what Jesus "looks like". We don't know exactly what He looked like, (there was no social media then), so the artist is giving their impression. Imagine if you will that there is another portrait of Jesus that the world sees every day: it's us, the followers of Jesus. All of mankind is made in the image of God, and all true believers in Jesus need to show Jesus, (like an image-bearer), to the world. We are living sacrifices, and in essence living portraits. Is it possible to do this? Yes. Is it easy? Not always, that is why it takes work and allowing the Spirit of God to help us do this. I believe the outcome of this is greater joy and fulfilment in your life and in the church family. So, listen up today, and look in the mirror of God's Word and see what a true Christian looks like.

Consecration, Serving other Believers

Today we continue with consecration of our lives as believers, to the Lord and being used for His glory. The best way we can demonstrate this is how we serve the church family, which Jesus calls "His". His church, His Body, a people for His purpose. This is important to keep in mind as we interact with each other in ministry. This is why I said last week it will be important to drop your pride and serve each other. With the message this morning we will expand that some more with the word "grace". This is what saves us, (Ephesians 2), it sustains us and gives us the ability to use our gift to serve the church. The Bible lists about 13 specific spiritual gifts, and as amazing as that is, in our own strength we cannot use them to their fullest. We need the Holy Spirit to give us the grace (think fuel), to accomplish this. I believe this is not a one-time event, but daily grace for each day that we serve the church and live out our lives. Question: Are you allowing for this? Pray and analyze how you live out your life in the body of the of the church. Are you using your gift to serve others, with the grace given to you daily to do this? Let's take a good look at this today, and may we continue to be living sacrifices to serve the Lord and each other. By Pastor Scott Parmenter

Consecration, A Living Sacrifice

Welcome to the new year. There is no doubt this is when many of us take a personal assessment of our lives: physically, emotionally and spiritually. There are many exercise programs and ways of eating that we may start, to become healthier and lose some weight. Maybe we want to have a better self-image and feel more confident, which could be a new job, a new path in our life, and of course there are many good books out there that address our psyche. As for spiritual, this is when the majority of Christians in the world decide to read through the Bible or take a deep dive into a specific book of the Bible, or attempt to finally kill off that sin that has been plaguing them for many years. A new year for sure, and there is nothing wrong in setting goals and going after them. Just know that statistically, over 90% of people who start these resolutions will quit doing them after the first few weeks of 2025. So how do you stay with it, not quit and be in the top 10%? I believe it is a word called "Consecration" and this is what we will be focusing on for the upcoming sermons. This involves the word of God and prayer, and is something that only a true believer in Jesus can do. So, let's get started, and make this year the best year of your life, in the name of Jesus! LIVING STONES

Here we are again at the end of another year, or as they say "another trip around the sun". For some of us we loved 2024, for others we are happy to say goodbye to 2024, and yet for others it is a mix of happy and sad. So how do we look back at 2024 in such a way that will not cause us grief, but allow us to see the hand of God and deepen our joy? It helps to see how others look back and then look forward. Joshua created a way for Israel to remember what God had done when He led them across the Jordan, and this is significant as it ended their wandering in the desert and started their new life in the Promised Land. This was a moment in the year of Israel that they were to remember and even tell their children. If you are not careful you may miss this subtle point in the story. This was not Joshua's idea, but God's idea. Why? God wants us to remember the things that He has done for us and create reminders, so in the moments of trial and trouble, we will remember what God has done and that He will do it again.
