"Johnny Goudie is the Marc Maron of Austin music. The veteran singer/guitarist – best known for fronting early Nineties pop band Mr. Rocket Baby and, later, his major-label rock act, Goudie – stepped up to the microphone with a new intention in 2011 and launched the How Did I Get Here? podcast. Now 840-some episodes in, the hourlong, twice-weekly interview show gives the host a platform to really connect with his Austin music guests, not just on what’s happening in their careers, but also in the shared experience of music appreciation – and that’s where he truly shines." - The Austin Chronicle

From The Vault - Episode 213: Adrian Quesada (10/17/13)

Hello and welcome to How Did I Get Here? From The Vault! Today we go back to episode 213 with Black pumas founder, producer and artist, Adrian Quesada. This show was originally released on 10/17/13. Adrian has released an incredible amount of amazing music through all of his bands including Black Pumas and his amazing "Boleros Psicodelicos" album (my favorite album of 2020) since this came out and has become one of my favorite musician/producers around. Below are my original notes form the show.
My guest for episode 213 is Grammy award winning producer, Adrian Quesada! I met Adrian a few months ago when i did the Elliot Smith tribute show. He was in the house band. I knew he was in Grupo Fantasma and Brownout and the he was producing a lot of my friends, Davíd Garza, Suzanna Choffel and Jazz Mills to name a few. Anyway, he's a great guy, immensely talented and we hit it off at the Elliot tribute, I asked him to come by and be on the show and he did. we talked about Grupo Fantasma, the Echocentric, Brownout, playing with Prince, Prince, producing, growing up skate punk in Laredo, Golden Globe parties, Grammy's and much, much more. I hope you enjoy getting to know Adrian Quesada. I did.

Amazing new music reviews and interviews with a healthy respect for the greats in Texas music and beyond -Taylor Tatsch

Rolling the dice with Ruby

What I like about Johnny’s interview style is that it’s just a conversation. And it’s no holds barred. He’ll ask the kind of questions that many people are not used to answering, probably because they never thought anybody would be interested in knowing. But, he really lets his guest, Ruby, in this case, go back and examine her life and, yep, figure out “how did I get here?” From a preachers kid in a one horse town in Colorado to the Austin Texas, the Live Music Capital of …well that was last year… by way of chocolate and church music. Great story!

Amazing show with great guests

I just listened to the episode with Lucas Griffin of The Ventures... I loved hearing stories about the band... funny coincidence, I used to work with Gerry McGees brother, Tom, he would tell me things that Gerry would tell him about the band travels and so forth..... kept the great shows coming Johnny
