No-fault divorce began in California in 1969 when Ronald Reagan was governor. It is now the norm in all fifty states. But when it requires both people to consent to getting married, should only one person be able to dissolve it? We’re now on the third generation of easy divorce, with many people never having seen a successful marriage. Many young people believe marriage is outdated because it’s so easy to get out of. Lawyer, co-founder of the Coalition for Divorce Reform, and author of Disassembly Required: A Memoir of Midlife Resurrection Beverly Willett talks about how changing the rules can be the impetus for improving marriage.
