Agriculture & Rural Business Podcast

Welcome to The Rural Business Podcast! My name is Aly Robins, and I’m a business and marketing coach for agriculture and rural-based businesses. Each week we’ll discuss insights and tools to start up, scale and develop your rural business. Whether you’re involved directly in agriculture, have a local brick and mortar, or run a rural-focused business from a home office - this podcast is for you. I’ll be your guide as we go through the process of developing your brand and market. As we unpack the many aspects of running a business in a rural setting, you’ll grow more confident as a business owner helping you gain the visibility and profitability you deserve. Coming from a ranching background, I understand the struggles of owning a business in a rural area as I operate mine from a tiny town with a population of 200. To grow and scale, I needed to learn how to change my mindset and put in the work. Now I’m here to help you do the same by sharing the same techniques, tools and thought processes I’ve used myself. If you want me to talk about a specific topic, go ahead and let me know at www.alyrobins.com/podcast-request. I can’t wait to hear from you!

Entrepreneurship in Rural Kansas with Brandi Lahey

In today’s episode, Brandi Lahey and I talk about all things entrepreneurship in rural Kansas. Brandi has a degree in nursing and didn’t set out to be an entrepreneur, but her rural location, staying home with her children, cooking for harvest dinners, and doing tasks on the farm made her look for something to fill her cup even more.    Brandi’s first business, Cimarron Prairie Farms, started by growing hops and selling them to local breweries. She later opened a mobile bar, The Tipsy Farmer, a unique and rare business model for Kansas when she began in 2021. The mobile bar was a part of different events, which led her to purchase a property with an old horse barn to turn into a wedding venue, Wild Sage Ranch.    Brandi shares different dynamics of entrepreneurship in a rural town, including the obstacles and challenges, as well as the most rewarding and exciting parts. We also talk about professional and personal development and how big of an impact it can make.    Follow The Tipsy Farmer on Instagram @the.tipsy.farmer or visit the website Follow The Wild Sage Rance on Instagram @thewildsageranch or visit the website   Follow me on Instagram @alyrobins1   If you have not done it yet, please click that “subscribe” or “follow” button to make sure you don’t miss any episodes.    Find the complete show notes here: https://www.alyrobins.com/agriculture-business-podcast/podcast-episodes/

What It’s Actually like Having a Podcast

I am so excited to share that this is my one-hundredth episode! I have been podcasting for almost two years, and I can’t believe it. Every week, I hope my episodes give you and your business value. Since today is a big milestone episode, I wanted to give you a little behind-the-scenes look at what it looks like to start and grow a podcast. Hopefully, it will help guide you if you’re wanting to start a podcast of your own!   When I started my podcast, my main goal was to market my business. But I also wanted to share my business knowledge and help others learn more about me before they enter my coaching programs.    There are a lot of logistics for a podcast. I tried to manage the editing process for a very short time before I realized I couldn’t give up that much time from the rest of my business. So I hired my podcast manager, Jill Carr. I plan and record the audio, and then Jill’s team takes it, edits it, mixes it with my intro/outro/commercials, and uploads it to a podcast platform. They also create Instagram Reels for my podcast that I can post on social media as well. There’s just a lot to it all!   If you’re an entrepreneur, your time is best spent creating and recording the content for the podcast and delegating the rest. If you can commit to consistency, you’ll continue to grow.   My podcast manager: Jill Carr Podcasting   Follow me on Instagram @alyrobins1   If you have not done it yet, please click that “subscribe” or “follow” button to make sure you don’t miss any episodes.    Find the complete show notes here: https://www.alyrobins.com/agriculture-business-podcast/podcast-episodes/

You Are Who You Hang Out With

If you’ve listened to my podcast or worked with me before, you probably know how much of an impact the very first coaching program I joined had on my life and my business. One of the biggest things I learned from that program was how much of an influence the people around me had on my habits, my thinking, and my life in general. It’s when I learned you are who you hang out with.   My beliefs stemmed from what the people around me said and thought. And if I wanted to change that, I had to change who I was spending time with. I wasn’t ready for that at all, but as I started to progress in my business, I understood how important it was for me to surround myself with high-level thinkers and entrepreneurs. This was a huge step in my personal development. I want to now be in the room with people who have proven to be successful so I can learn more and grow.   In today’s episode, I encourage you to do a good audit of who you hang around with and how they may be influencing your success. Are they inspiring and adding value? Are you taking in negativity from them that could be holding you back? This episode walks you through how to level up.   Follow me on Instagram @alyrobins1   If you have not done it yet, please click that “subscribe” or “follow” button to make sure you don’t miss any episodes.   Find the complete show notes here: https://www.alyrobins.com/agriculture-business-podcast/podcast-episodes/
