Ed Tick’s Mission: Healing PTSD & Soul Wounds in Ukraine and Russia

Over the course of four decades holistic psychotherapist, author, and poet Dr. Ed Tick has dedicated his life to healing the invisible wounds of war. His work transcends borders and conflicts, bringing hope and healing to veterans, trauma survivors, and, most recently, soldiers on both sides of the Ukrainian-Russian war. Through spiritual practices, deep soul work, and ancient traditions, Ed addresses trauma in ways that modern approaches often fail to do. “Trauma is cumulative and transgenerational. Our ancestors’ wounds live inside us, and if we don’t stop and heal, the pain only grows. Healing isn’t just for the present—it’s for the past and future, too.” — Dr. Ed Tick Topics in this Episode: Ed’s innovative approach to preventing and treating PTSD during war, and the challenges he faces working with both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers. The soul-wounding effects of war and the importance of addressing trauma from a spiritual, holistic perspective. How poetry plays a crucial role in healing and reconciliation, particularly through Ed’s book Coming Home in Vietnam. The profound personal connection Ed has with the Russian and Ukrainian conflict, rooted in his family’s history. How Ed’s work with ancient spiritual and healing traditions informs modern approaches to treating PTSD. With a strong foundation in orthopedics as well as Pelvic floor issues, Dr. Campbell offers a full spectrum of treatment to support the whole body. "It's a very intimate subject, and most people don't talk about it at all. And if they do, they might be saying to someone else: “I've had that for years, that's just, you know, part of being a woman. And it's really not.” --Dr Caleigh Campbell Meeting women where they are is important to Dr. Campbell. There may be trauma involved, or shame, embarrassment, or a simple lack of knowledge. She reaches out to her patients using compassion, inquiry, and respect. Many women are relieved to learn they may not need surgery that had been recommended, or can try other options first. Surgery is often an option for things like incontinence, but physical therapy can often be as or more helpful. As Dr. Caleigh sees it, “You can always do surgery as a last resort, but if physical therapy can take care of it, why not start there?” In this episode, we discuss: 👉🏼 The benefits of physical therapy for the pelvic floor. 👉🏼 The lack of awareness of the specialty among patients and often physicians as well. 👉🏼 The wide array of women who can benefit from PT. 👉🏼 The lack of PT doctors treating pelvic floor issues .👉🏼 The promise of treatment for incontinence, pregnancy and postpartum, painful intercourse, and more. 👉🏼 The freedom to visit a doctor of physical therapy without a referral (check with your insurer first.) 👉🏼 How shame, embarrassment, pride and and a lack of knowledge prevents women from getting help 👉🏼 How pelvic floor surgery can help women avoid surgery .💻 Refine Therapy Website https://www.refinept 📲 Follow Refine Therapyy on Social Media Facebook Instagram YouTube ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Thank you for watching! Revisit: Professor Steve Babson Explores American Populism

In this episode, we're joined by the remarkable Dr. Steve Babson, a man who has spent his life studying and teaching the intricacies of labor movements and political dynamics. His latest book, Populism: When America's Farmers Turned Left to Save Democracy, takes us back to the late 1800s, a time when America's farmers rallied against corporate giants to defend democracy. The parallels with today’s political landscape are numerous. Steve’s career has been anything but ordinary. His life as a professor and labor activist ranged from college classrooms to union halls and factories, to the most unconventional spots, like bowling alleys. His dedication to labor education, showcased through his work at Wayne State University's Labor Studies Center, speaks volumes about his commitment to workers' rights, both within and outside unions. This hands-on experience gives Steve a unique lens through which he views the parallels between past and present political movements. "Populism is a term applied to a whole range of politicians who, in my estimate, have very little in common." - Steve Babson In our conversation, Steve and I dive deep into the roots of populism, exploring how it has morphed over time and what it means today. We tackle pressing issues like climate change and the current political climate, all while drawing lessons from the populist farmers of the 1890s who dared to challenge the status quo. As we inch closer to the 2024 election, understanding the past becomes crucial. Steve's insights not only offer a fascinating look at historical populist movements but also shed light on our contemporary struggles. This episode is a must-listen for anyone keen on grasping the broader implications of populism and its relevance to today's political and environmental debates.
