    Remembering Penn’s Dad

    Remembering Penn’s Dad

If you met Penn's Dad, you’d know where Penn gets his personality from. He was an absolute legend. He lit up every room he walked into, dedicated his life to his community, and founded local charities to help those in need. Haywood Holderness passed away earlier this month. There’s been a lot of ‘laughter through tears’ at our house remembering him.
About 10 years ago, he wrote out specific instructions about everything he wanted when he passed. This week on the podcast, we remember Penn’s Dad and talk about the lessons learned from having a parent pass away, including making your wishes known. (Also to ensure we don’t bum you out too much, I ended the podcast telling my best ‘Mom Jokes’ to Penn.) Hug those you love, tomorrow is never promised.

    About the Holderness Family
: Penn, Kim, Lola, and Penn Charles Holderness create original music, parodies, and Vlogs for YouTube and Facebook to poke fun of themselves and celebrate the absurdity in circumstances most families face in their day to day life. They published "Christmas Jammies" in December 2013 and life hasn't been the same. Since then, their popular parodies, "All About That Baste", "Baby Got Class," and original music "Snow Day" have received national news coverage. Penn, the Dad, took a chance and left his job as a news anchor to join his wife Kim, the Mom, at their video production and digital marketing company, Greenroom Communications, LLC. Lola and Penn Charles are always happy, respectful and eat all of their vegetables (that last sentence is a lie).

Parenting Expectations vs. Reality with Dr. Hope Seidel

Parenting Expectations vs. Reality with Dr. Hope Seidel

In the months leading up to the birth of Lola, Penn was really nervous about becoming a Dad. We didn’t have practice with other kids. We never even had a dog. So we decided to get a fish, as if that would somehow help us prepare to become parents. Needless to say, that fish died within 2 weeks. What a way to start our parenting journey.
On today’s podcast, we called our friend, pediatrician and parenting coach, Dr. Hope Seidel, to talk about the expectations vs reality of raising kids. Dr. Seidel said that one of the biggest things she has learned is that a child’s wellness depends on the wellness of their parents. Let that sink in, parents. Your wellness MATTERS. Listen for more advice from Dr. Seidel, and the surprising answer to which role Penn would love to play in Hamilton.

What The Heck Is Crypto? with Matthew Diemer

What The Heck Is Crypto? with Matthew Diemer

Remember the viral clip of the news reporters who found out about the internet for the first time? (Just what is this "information super highway?" And yes, that is a direct quote.) That is how I feel people will look at this podcast in 10 years when digital currency is all we use. Today we discuss just what the heck is cryptocurrency, the blockchain, and NFTs... and boy, do we have questions.
Penn and I make silly internet videos for a living, so let's be clear, you should not take any financial advice from us or this podcast. However, if you would like digital currency explained to you like you're a preschooler (in a good way!) our expert guest Matthew Diemer from the podcast, Decrypt Daily, can help. Stick around for some fun segments afterwards too!

Calling Senators & Making You Smile

Calling Senators & Making You Smile

We know people come to our channels to laugh and escape, but the things happening in our world right now are not a laughing matter. So we decided to do this week’s podcast episode in two parts. We started by calling our senator. Currently, there are two gun control bills that have been stalled in the Senate. I know the idea of calling into a political office can be a terrifying (as an introvert even calling to order Chinese food can stress me out.) I hope listening to me call my senator shows that it is extremely easy…but above all, incredibly impactful if you chose to do so.
We end our podcast by doing what we do best... trying to make you smile. Even though life is heavy, we believe laughter is one of the best medicines. Penn shares his favorite dad jokes, some great “would you rather” questions, and our honest review of the new Top Gun movie. Don’t forget to call us and leave a message - we might play your question in next week’s episode. Tell us what you like, ask a question, or just say hi. Call 323-364-3929. Wait, Do We All Have ADHD? with Dr. Marcy Caldwell

Wait, Do We All Have ADHD? with Dr. Marcy Caldwell

This week called our friend, Dr. Marcy Caldwell, to ask her the Question of the Day: How many adults, specifically women, are going undiagnosed with ADHD? As always, Dr. Caldwell had some great insight for us on what it’s like for an adult to have ADHD and why it can be so difficult to diagnose especially in adult women.
We also learned that the expectations of modern life can overtax any neurotypical brain, which looks like an ADHD brain under stress. Does this mean we all have ADHD? Later on, we talk about how I love the idea of living out of an RV. (Notice I said, the “idea” of an RV.) But I don’t think we could actually pull it off. For one thing, Penn is a pretty big person that needs a lot of space. Even his shoes are big... where would he put his shoes in an RV?
Listen to hear more about adult ADHD from Dr. Caldwell, our travel adventures, and about our favorite item of the week. (Spoiler: it’s our friend Taylor’s new book, A Dude's Guide to Baby Size: What to Expect and How to Prep for Dads-to-Be). Don’t forget to call us and leave a message - we might play your question in next week’s episode. Life Goals in 2022

    Life Goals in 2022

When it comes to our marriage, I would definitely say I’m the big dreamer. I adore a 5-year plan and especially a color-coordinated vision board. But this week’s question gave me pause: “What are some big life goals you want to accomplish?” I think the last two years with the constant worry and fear of the pandemic, politics, and world news, I feel some goal-setting burnout. Don’t get me wrong, I still get really excited about being creative and the work we do every day. I’m just scared to verbalize big dreams that may not be able to come to fruition.

I love it

I’m going to be listening to this every day

Ms Kiwi Johnson ,

What took me so long?!?

I can’t believe I JUST found this podcast!! I’ve followed your Instagram for a while now, and I hold Kim’s mantra near to my heart (I’m doing the best I can) (literally near my heart on an awesome sweatshirt). As an anxiety ridden mama of a boy with ADHD you guys have been so helpful for me to keep life light and understanding that while these neurodifferences can be challenging they can also be our super powers. Now I get to listen to y’all too!! Thanks for existing 😜

areemkay ,

It’s like hanging out with your friends

Listening to a lot of your points about relationship advice has truly changed my relationship with my partner. I have depression and anxiety and he has ADHD so we relate a lot! Every time I listen to the podcast (or book!!) I feel like I’m hanging out with you both. So relatable, fun, and helpful!
