How To Get (and Stay) Organized with The Home Edit

How To Get (and Stay) Organized with The Home Edit

Penn and I have learned to be understanding of how each other’s brains work. He gives me grace when I need to get things in order and I try my best to give him patience when I close the cabinet doors for the 5th time. On this week’s podcast, we interviewed the women who turned organizing in rainbow order into an entire brand. Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin are creators of The Home Edit and stars of the hit Netflix series, Get Organized with The Home Edit. THEY EVEN INSPIRED PENN TO GET ORGANIZED. (I know, I know.)

    About the Holderness Family
: Penn, Kim, Lola, and Penn Charles Holderness create original music, parodies, and Vlogs for YouTube and Facebook to poke fun of themselves and celebrate the absurdity in circumstances most families face in their day to day life. They published "Christmas Jammies" in December 2013 and life hasn't been the same. Since then, their popular parodies, "All About That Baste", "Baby Got Class," and original music "Snow Day" have received national news coverage. Penn, the Dad, took a chance and left his job as a news anchor to join his wife Kim, the Mom, at their video production and digital marketing company, Greenroom Communications, LLC. Lola and Penn Charles are always happy, respectful and eat all of their vegetables (that last sentence is a lie).

Helping ADHD Kids with Dr. Norrine Russell

Helping ADHD Kids with Dr. Norrine Russell

As many of you know, we talk openly around here about mental health and the specific challenges we deal with in our own lives. We’ve written songs, podcasts, and blogs about these topics, and one of the most common questions we get from you guys about this is “how do I help my kid who struggles with these issues?” If you were following along last week, we introduced a new podcast format we are trying out with segments, so we took all of your feedback for our question of the week which is: “How do I help my disorganized kid get through the week?”  We phoned a friend, Dr. Norrine Russell, and asked her professional advice on this.
Dr. Russell is an Executive Functioning & ADHD Coaching Expert who coaches kids at one of the largest international student coaching practices in the world. She is passionate about providing support to frustrated parents and their misunderstood children. Our hearts were both more calm after talking to Dr. Russell. She walked us through some great tips on how parents can better support children who think atypically. She also reminded us that we could be more chill.

    Making More Joy

    Making More Joy

Our podcast is our favorite thing we do. It’s like a built in day-date every week where we get to sit down and chat together for an hour. Sometimes we chat about serious topics between ourselves or other times we invite a special guest to teach us something. It really brings us a lot of joy.
With the world continuing to be so serious, we’ve found ourselves seeking out things that bring us joy and levity. We want to look for the “extra” in the ordinary everyday. We thought maybe all of you out there might be feeling the same way, so we are testing out a new format on our podcast this week to hopefully create a little bit more joy to spread around. Please tell us what you think of our segments (and Penn's segments songs!)

    We're In A Slump

    We're In A Slump

I feel very fortunate to have had our careers and health for the past two years, but I have been in an emotional slump. I'm fighting mine by amping up my extrovert time (shocker I know) but I am determined to push past this slump. Penn has been in a recent slump with his tennis hobby. He realized he has been putting more emphasis on his athletic performance instead of just having fun.
Penn and I discuss how to know when a hobby isn’t serving us in good ways. Also we discuss the first stop on my hobby hunting journey... Tai Chi! What ways do you overcome slumps? Share with us by leaving a comment or review.

Amazing Race Recap with Phil Keoghan (Bonus)

Amazing Race Recap with Phil Keoghan (Bonus)

Now that The Amazing Race has concluded, Penn and I have been interviewing as many of our co-contestants as possible. To wrap up these bonus podcast episodes, we brought in fan-favorite and host of The Amazing Race, Phil Keoghan! Phil gave his behind-the-scenes take on what it’s like to be on the other side of the mat each week.
As one of the Producers of the show, Phil has been there through all 33 seasons to see each of the contestants and challenges play out. We asked Phil who he predicted to win at the beginning of the season (Newsflash, it wasn’t us!) Listen in to hear Phil’s answer on how he thought we’d do in the race and his answer to some of your other burning questions! You can also watch our interview on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUld3nzE4S4&feature=emb_title

    Things We Used To Believe

    Things We Used To Believe

Growing up there were the beliefs we hung our hats on before we were old enough to know better. Recently, I wrote a blog post about these past ideals (even ones that I've said to my own kids) that I'm trying to unravel now. We've all had missteps that have made us who we are today, but it's good to know when those idioms aren't serving us. You all came in HOT with some contributions to my list so we talk about yours too! Also... Penn explains lottery number science. So there's that.

BlessedMomAndMiMi ,

A bright spot in my week every time an episode drops

This podcast is simply amazing. Uplifting. Funny. Educational. Supportive. Helpful. Insightful. Just freaking awesome.

I’ve listened to every episode but the one in supporting ADHD kids was life changing. As a veteran mom of 30 years, I am walking the ADHD diagnose process for the first time with my 4th of 5 kids. It’s a scary, difficult and emotional journey.

Penn and Kim have done such great things to bring normalcy to ADHD which has helped me help my son. This particular episode gave me such great tips to make daily life less stressful for him and me.

If you want a well rounded podcast that is worth your time and will better your life, this is it! Subscribe. Listen. Relisten. You will not regret it.

HolderYes!

I started watching the Holderness Family on YouTube and still love their hilarious content. What I’ve come to appreciate even more, though, is their relatability and vulnerability in discussing mental health. As someone who struggles with anxiety and is married to someone with ADHD, this means a lot to me. Kim and Penn are such warm and genuine people that, even though we’ve never met, I feel like I’m sitting down with good friends each week when I listen to their podcast!

Mom kl ,

Funny and relatable

I’ve been following Kim and Penn on Facebook for years now and really enjoyed their book. Our whole family absolutely loved watching them on The Amazing Race. Their podcast is sweet, funny, and very relatable. You were asking for feedback on your new segment ideas…I do like the topics, but I think the intro music to each segment could be shorter. Maybe just a few seconds or half as long as they are? Maybe I’m just inpatient though and want you to get on with the segments. 😂 Thank you for doing what you do you brighten my day!
