    81) Dopeworld

Today, I talk with Niko Vorobyov about his book; Dopeworld. He is a freelance writer, who has writen for Vice, Russia Today, Filter, and others. He served a two-and-a-half year sentence for Possession with Intent to Supply, and upon his release, he graduated from University College London. Afterwords he began working at Russian news outlet Russia Today, and put together his media, academic and under-the-counter expertise into writing a book. A summary of the book can be seen below.

After I got out of jail, I was determined to find out more about how the issue of drugs not only landed me there, but has shaped the entire world: wars, scandals, coups, revolutions. I read every book, watched every documentary. I saved up to buy plane tickets. I went to Colombia, Mexico, Russia, Italy, Japan and the Afghan border—all in all, fifteen  countries across five continents.

    Call me Narco Polo.

Bio: Niko Vorobyov was born in Leningrad, Russia, before moving to Great Britain. From 2013-2014 he served a two-and-a-half-year sentence for Possession with Intent to Supply.

Upon his release, he graduated from UCL and began working at Russian news outlet Russia Today before putting together his media, academic and under-the-counter expertise in writing a book.

    80) Criminal Justice System

    80) Criminal Justice System

It has become beyond apparent that a “tough on crime” approach proves more detrimental than beneficial to society. To further explore this, I am joined by high-profile criminal barrister, Queen's Council, and author of “Justice on Trial”, Chris Daw QC, who offers his thoughts on what measures need to be taken to reform a tragically devolved justice system.

Bio: Chris Daw QC was called to the Bar in 1993 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013. Before taking silk, Chris built his reputation in the  criminal courts, acting in high profile  trials and appeals, from  serious organised crime to commercial fraud. As a QC, whilst maintaining  a substantial criminal and serious fraud practice, Chris acts in a  broader range of matters, including business, regulatory and  professional discipline instructions.

Chris Daw QC has a stellar practise spanning the fields of criminal  law, serious fraud, business regulation, and professional discipline.  Ranked as a Leading Silk in The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, Chris appears in many high profile cases. He also advises companies and  leading individuals in the worlds of sport, entertainment, and business.  First and foremost, however, he is known for his winning strategies and  exceptional client care, no matter who he represents.

Chris Daw QC acts only for private and insured clients, all of whom  receive the time and attention to detail they demand. His client base  consists of private individuals, corporations, regulated professionals,  and senior police officers. Although Chris has acted for international  footballers, world champion boxers, television producers, multi-national  corporations, and Chief Constables, most of his clients are not in the  public eye and have no desire for the limelight. Many of those who  instruct Chris are hard-working people, who find themselves, or a loved  one, accused of a crime, which threatens to ruin their life. They want  to do everything legally possible to protect themselves from  imprisonment, damage to reputation, and financial ruin.

    79) How to Drag a Body

    79) How to Drag a Body

Judith Matloff is a seasoned war corespondent who, among other things, teaches future journalists how to survive in dangerous situations. In todays episode, I ask her how to spot landmines, what's the best course of action is for the people of Ukraine, and a number of other important questions. And yes, how to drag a body.

Bio: Judith Matloff teaches crisis  reporting at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism. She trailblazed  safety training for women and media organizations around the world,  helping hundreds of journalists survive an increasingly dangerous  world.

Over 40 years as a journalist, she  has covered top international stories including Rwanda’s genocide,  apartheid and the rise of Vladimir Putin. Her essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Forbes, the Financial Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal. Earlier in her career, Matloff headed the Moscow and Africa bureaus of the Christian Science Monitor and she spent a decade reporting for Reuters from various countries.

Matloff consults for leading  organizations around the world, and has pioneered protocols for digital,  gender and physical security. Clients have  included NBC, the United Nations, the Society of Professional  Journalists, Doc Society, Magnum, the State Department, the Knight  Center for Journalism in the Americas, the International Women’s Media  Foundation and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.  Her training company, Security Rules LLC, offers workshops for a wide  variety of dangerous situations.

Matloff’s latest book, How to Drag a Body and Other Safety Tips You Hope to Never Need, shares expert advice for nearly every conceivable peril. She earlier published No Friends but the Mountains, which drew a link between geography and conflict; Fragments of a Forgotten War, about Angola’s civil war; and Home Girl, which chronicled a Harlem street run by a drug gang.

A graduate of Harvard, her work has  won the support of the MacArthur Foundation, the Fulbright and Logan  Nonfiction programs and Stanford’s Hoover Institution.

Diverse informative topics

One thing I liked when I came upon this podcast was the diverse topics. As a listener I find these to be informative and guests are intermediate-experts and provide a large sum of knowledge.
