Cozy but amateurish
If you enjoy having parasocial relationships with podcast hosts, You Are Good is wonderful because Alex Steed and Sarah Marshall are warm, sweet, smart hosts who talk about themselves a lot. I prefer a more film-forward, less personality driven approach, so this show, alas, has worn thin for me over time. There are also some things that I find downright annoying such as Steed’s needlessly long intros to each episode and his habit of laughing at everything he says. (His voice also has a thick, logy quality that I find challenging to listen to in general, but I’m unusually sensitive to this sort of thing.) Finally, I find the overall quality of the show to be a bit shoddy… like when Alex and Sarah make their guests introduce themselves (that’s a host’s job, guys!) or when they don’t know a really basic fact about the movie they’re supposed to be discussing, like the name of a lead actor. It’s all just a little too loose and TMI for my taste, but these are probably some of the same qualities that make many You Are Good listeners feel as if they’re hanging out with friends, so your mileage may vary!
