The Food Pyramid
In the 1990s, the Food Pyramid was one of the most recognizable symbols in nutrition education. But where did it come from? Why was it created by the agriculture department? And why did it tell us to eat a whole loaf of bread every day?

Fantastic except for Michael Hobbes micro aggressions
This podcast is truly gold, filled with interesting research, theory, and chemistry between the hosts. Aubrey Gordon does an outstandingly charismatic job. Michael Hobbes has a lot of charming moments, but frequently reveals his biases throughout. He’ll quickly say things like “fat people do need to lose weight” and refer to straight sized people in ways he never applies to the fat people he talks about. He labels thin people hot, attractive, normal sized, people who look good etc. instead of neutral terms like slender or straight sized. It says a lot that even while decrying the fatphobia of the people he discusses, he reveals a tacit agreement with them. He frequently makes it clear that he barely has a rudimentary understanding of how to talk about race, (ex: referring to white women simply as “women” and women of color as “other people” only offering commentary like “oh yeah, that’s not great” when racism comes up) which is shocking considering Aubrey’s stellar politic and the nature of the show. It’s the only point of frustration that keeps cropping up throughout an otherwise lovely breath of fresh air. Over time, it’s gotten progressively more tiring and grating to hear him consistently make weird comments that never seem to get better. Not to mention the ways he slights Aubrey from time to time. Subtly negging her new book, treating Aubrey like an afterthought when Sarah Marshall was a guest, having nothing to say when Aubrey opens up about past traumas. It’s just like WHY IS HE HERE?? Please get another fat co-host bc he is not it. Aubrey deserves better.
ONE-STAR reviewers are MISSING THE ENTIRE POINT
90% of people who lose weight regain ALL OF IT. We don’t actually know how to help people lose weight and keep it off. Everything else is said with that understanding. If you cannot comprehend that, you are perpetuating the myth of personal responsibility and you are part of the problem.
Stop giggling
