Gillingham appoint Mark Bonner: Instant reaction!

Gillingham appoint Mark Bonner: Instant reaction!

The wait for a new Gills boss was a mercifully short one, with the news coming on Tuesday that the club had appointed former Cambridge United boss Mark Bonner as the new “First-Team Manager” at Priestfield.
It puts the club in the perfect position ahead of the summer transfer window, as Bonner arrives with all the time he needs to make the necessary moves to strengthen the side and build his team ahead of the 2024/25 League 2 season.
But what do the Gills fans think of Bonner’s arrival? James Hawkins takes the helm of a special instant reaction podcast as fellow Gills fans Stuart Lewis, Luke Teachen and Simon Head, plus EFL expert Gabe Sutton, weigh in with their thoughts on the new appointment at ME7.
We’d love to hear YOUR views, too. Tweet us @TheME7Podcast on Twitter to share your take on Bonnar’s arrival.

EMERGENCY POD: Stephen Clemence SACKED! Instant reaction

EMERGENCY POD: Stephen Clemence SACKED! Instant reaction

The Stephen Clemence era is officially over at Gillingham Football Club.
After an initial social media report from The Telegraph’s John Percy suggesting the club had sacked Clemence and Robbie Stockdale, an official statement from the club confirmed the news.
It means Priestfield is set for another wild summer as we look to appoint Clemence’s successor, then start the necessary job of improving the squad ahead of next season.
    The big questions now are:
    * Were owner Brad Galinson and managing director Joe Comper right to pull the trigger?
    * Now Clemence has gone, who should take over?
    * And what should become of the club’s recruitment team?
The ME7 Podcast’s Owen Stanley and James Hawkins are joined by a cast of Gills fans to give their immediate reaction to the news.

Gillingham 3-0 Barrow: SOMEHOW still a glimmer of hope?

Gillingham 3-0 Barrow: SOMEHOW still a glimmer of hope?

Just when it looked like Gillingham’s season was over, the team, aided by some favourable results elsewhere, have given themselves a late lifeline, thanks to one of their best performances of the season.
Gillingham’s 3-0 win over Barrow had a ton of positives. The team kept their foot on the gas as they chased more than just the one goal – and finally got their rewards. Josh Andrews netted on his first home start for the club. Connor Mahoney rounded out the win with another well-taken effort. And, thanks to other results going our way, the Gills are, remarkably still in the mix for a playoff place with just a couple of games to go.
Owen and Matt look back at the game and ponder whether the unlikely – Gills in the playoffs – might actually happen

Gillingham vs. Barrow preview: Three to go...

With just three league games remaining in the 2023/24 League 2 season, Gillingham aren’t so much sprinting for the line, as stumbling towards it.
The team sits mid-table in League 2, with our playoff hopes destroyed by a disastrous late-season run of results, and now thoughts have turned to the summer, and what the club needs to do to get us moving in the right direction.
Before any summer business can be conducted, however, we still have three games to go, starting with our penultimate home game of the season, against Barrow, this weekend.
With players potentially playing for their Priestfield futures, and the fate of head coach Stephen Clemence also far from certain, there’s plenty for people to prove before the curtain comes down to end the season.
James takes the helm of our regular pre-match pod as he looks ahead at the weekend’s game, and discusses all of the surrounding topics with fellow Gills fans ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Barrow.
