The Kewanee Public Library is eager to get kids and parents involved in Summer Reading. The Summer Reading Program is getting underway soon at the Kewanee Public Library and kids and parents can take part and earn prizes for their Summer Reading. Sara Billiet from the Kewanee Public Library joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday to invite kids and parents to download the BeanStack App on their Smartphone and to start tracking your reading for the Summer Reading Program. Sara also talked about the upcoming meeting of the Science Book Club and an upcoming welcome open house for the new Kewanee Public Library Director happening on September 29th at the Library. 

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and one place where there is increasing attention being paid to better mental health is in our schools. Recently, local schools have been seeking grants that will help the schools place mental health professionals in the schools and available to help kids in need. RaeAnn Tucker with the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the role the Health Department is playing in help schools explore bringing in Mental Health professionals. RaeAnn also talked about the ongoing effort at the Health Department to hand out free Gun Locks courtesy of the Illinois Department of Health. 

On Tuesday, Katie Laleman from the Henry County Farm Bureau joined Wake Up Tri-Counties. Katie gave us an update about planting season and the slow progress this Spring planting thus far, by the numbers. Katie then talked about upcoming events and initiatives from the Henry County Farm Bureau including preparation and planning for the upcoming Henry County Fair. The Henry County Farm Bureau has a long standing and mutually beneficial relationship with the Henry County Fair and that will continue in 2024. And, of course, the Peddle Tractor Pull will be back for another year at the Henry County Fair with the support of the Henry County Farm Bureau. 

Wednesday was National School Nurses Day and one of our local Kewanee 3rd Graders joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Wednesday to pay tribute to our heroic school nurses.
