Pushing through the dark and hopeless spaces with Jinica Torrez

In My Truth

“Even in those dark, hopeless spaces, push through it. Even though it feels so real and that you have no options and everything in your psyche is telling you to quit and let the suffering be done, if you can just get through to the other side, the answers will come to you. It’s not hopeless.”

Welcome everyone to this episode of In My Truth!

I have my dear friend Jinica Torrez on the show today, another friend and guest on the show I’ve met through the Fit For Service program!

Jinica grew up in California and currently lives in the deserts of Arizona. She’s 34 years old and still feels like she’s trying to get her shit together.

She describes her whole life as having a negative lens, and joined the Fit For Service program in order to work on herself to better serve others and the world.

In this conversation, we get into Jinica’s childhood trauma, how it has manifested in her life and how she’s dealing with her relationship with herself.

It’s a process, and right now Jinica is struggling with how her career has turned out compared to what she imagined when she was younger, and how to make the transition into her new-found purpose.

Let’s dive in.

“My heart breaks for injustice of your situation.”

Join your host Sarah Riegelhuth as she’s joined by Jinica Torrez in this episode of In My Truth, as they dive into their stories, all the ways they hid them due to shame, and all the ways they’re now sharing them with the world (and how that has changed their lives!).

-

“What I had learned was that my truth either wasn’t valid, or was going to get me in trouble or get me banished, so I learned very quickly not to share my truth.”

-

Listen in to the In My Truth podcast as Sarah Riegelhuth and Jinica Torrez get deep into dealing with childhood trauma, sexual assault, being a child of divorce, and all the different stories we grow up believing from childhood.

  • feeling like you’re not being heard
  • childhood behaviour
  • shyness
  • being let down by adults as a child
  • learning disabilities stemming from abuse
  • not being good enough
  • rejection
  • exploring non-monogamy
  • letting people down
  • dealing with suicidal thoughts
  • experiencing a breakdown
  • detaching from emotions
  • the grief process
  • losing a parent
  • journaling as medicine
  • running away

Remember you’re not alone, and there is hope, even though it may not feel that way at times. Talk to someone, a friend or family member and let them support you. Reach out to a professional. Do whatever you need to do to start your journey back to feeling good.

Here are some resources I found on Google (because I am not a professional, these are not recommendations, just suggestions with love and empathy from me to you):

Lifeline (Australia): 13-11-14 is a confidential telephone crisis support service available 24/7 from a landline, payphone or mobile.
