Best Softball Podcast!
So many softball podcasts tend to dwindle down and end up stop producing new content all together. I am excited to have found this podcasts! The host is knowledgable, energetic and best of all, they keep putting out new episodes!!! Thank you!
Bring Back 7innings!
When I slowly came to realize that ESPN’s 7innings podcast wasn’t coming back, I went looking for another. Then I found out about this one and was excited to finally have weekly insights again on NCAA softball. However, my excitement quickly dwindled for three main reasons:
1) The hosts. Their flippant and bro attitude toward each other and the sport comes across as out of sync with women’s softball. They seem like they’re just trying to one-up each other, rather than knowledgeably talk about the game in any meaningful way. Plus, their interviews are rather long-winded as they try to talk as much as their guests.
2) The content and format. They will sometimes venture off into other sports talk and even go into tiffs with each other. I came to hear softball, and while I appreciate the fact they want to do interviews (the Monica Abbott had its good moments), where is the discussion of the game, the mover and shakers, debates on that week’s rankings, players of the week, big wins and losses, etc. This is really my biggest issue with the podcast. But then there’s…
3) Sound Quality. From the intro to the hosts banter, it’s already low volume and has a radio quality to it, which could be okay until they get to the interview, then everyone sounds like they’re all speaking into one mic from 5 feet away. How does D1 not produce a better sounding show than this?? Look, I get that interviews are probably on Zoom, but I record that way as well and it’s amazing what a little effort and post-editing and EQ can do.
So although I really wanna like this podcast, it just has too much going against it and is more annoying than informational or even entertaining.
