In this episode, three researchers from the School of Education, University of Leeds are discussing work they have been doing which focuses on a relatively new post-16 maths option, known as Core Maths. For a long time, the only post-16 maths qualification available in most schools and colleges has been A-level Mathematics, which is only accessible to the very highest attaining students. The introduction of a different maths course, which is suitable for any student who has a standard pass at GCSE, has been warmly welcomed, since it should enable many more students in England to continue with maths.
