    USCX preview with John Meehan

    The USA has a brand new, nationwide cyclocross series coming this Fall - the USCX. USCX was co-founded by John Meehan (you know him from the Jingle Cross Festival) and will feature 8 pro races spread across 4 race weekends.     Mammoth TUFF with David Sheek

    I recently sat down with athlete and cycling coach David Sheek, who joined me to talk about the Mammoth TUFF, a mixed-surface endurance cycling event he co-founded with cyclocross and gravel rider Amanda Nauman. David and I met via Zoom during his training camp in Mammoth Lakes, while he was in the final decision making process on whether to attend the Unbound Gravel XL (350 miles!) in just a few weeks. We chat about the growth of gravel cycling, bike prep, handling the effects of altitude, what to carry on your bike, hydration and nutrition, and the COVID-19 protocol at the re-scheduled Mammoth TUFF, which is coming up this Fall. Great tips, especially for cyclocross riders who are used to racing for an hour, that might want to get into these day-long endurance gravel rides.  We ended up talking for about an hour and a half, so I’ve pulled the highlights of our conversation into this episode. We talk about the Fayetteville course design, fan costumes, his long history as a race director, and the growth of Arkansas as a destination cycling hotbed.     2021 Ostende cyclocross World Championship preview show

    Although we're in the middle of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 UCI cyclocross world championship has been approved and is moving forward as scheduled for January 30 and 31, 2021. This race promises epic battles for the world title in a course that features a huge beach sand section, plus challenging climbing on two steep flyovers.  This episode previews the Ostende, Belgium course, the COVID-19 protocol that will be in place, and the favored athletes who are in podium contention.
