    In this episode, Gregory Hernandez interviewed two Bronx native filmmakers, Alvaro Franco & Zanin Lindsay. Álvaro Franco 🇪🇨🇪🇸 Writer/director, published author, sometimes actor 🎬🎥 Aspiring Renaissance man. Below-the-line soldier with an above-the-line attitude Alvaro is an independent, New York-based filmmaker and visual artist. HeI has years of on-set and editorial experience, and he is capable of delivering projects on a fast turnaround time. After directing mostly documentaries during his years in CUNY, he is returning to narrative filmmaking with the intent to establish more racial and gender diversity in contemporary cinema. Zanin Lindsay is a Black/Latino Cinematographer from the Bronx based in NYC. While passionate about creating visually-driven stories that better represent the nuances of BIPOC identity, he also focuses on streamlining the image-making process into a collaborative, engaging, and communicative atmosphere to ensure the intangible vision of the film can turn into a tangible reality that better connects with the audience. Zanin earned his Media and Digital Film Production Associates at Bronx Community College in 2018. In his senior year, Zanin was awarded the first-ever Sol Negrin Memorial Award, sponsored by the IATSE Local 600 International Cinematographers Guild, for being a leader among his peers and a representative for the program. His thesis film, Antithesis, won First Place at the 25th Annual Bronx Community College Film and Video Festival and was awarded the Chairsperson's and Peter J. Rondinone Memorial awards. After graduating from the program, Zanin was accepted into City College’s Film and Video BFA program in 2019, where only 25 students are selected each year. Zanin is available for freelance, part-time, and contract work and is part of Local 600: International Cinematographers Guild. When not working, Zanin enjoys teaching and leading filmmaking workshops while volunteering for nonprofits that aim to make film and filmmaking more accessible to underrepresented persons in and outside the Bronx.

    Episode 25 | Michael Brown | "The Celebration"

    In this episode we interview, filmmaker and Board Member for the Bronx Independent Cinema Center, "Michael Brown" MIKE L. BROWN Mike L. Brown attended Howard University and NYU’s graduate film school where he studied under celebrated filmmakers such as Spike Lee and worked on his HBO documentary WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Later, Michael received support from the Sundance Institute, Firelight Media, Ford Foundation, and Tribeca All Access for his directorial debut, the feature documentary 25 TO LIFE (previously on NETFLIX). Michael’s short film THOUSAND LIGHTS OF SUN premiered on REVOLT TV. His latest short THE CELEBRATION was funded by New York State Council on the Arts and premiered at Micheaux Film Festival in LA and Big Apple Film Festival in NYC. Michael believes great filmmaking is a combination of art, intellectual engagement, and entertainment. This philosophy informs his artistic approach.     Episode 24 | Michael Tyner | "The People's Way"

    In this episode we interview filmmaker, Michael Tyner. Michael Tyner is an acclaimed producer and director known for his award-winning scripted and documentary content highlighting music, culture, and transformative narratives. He made his directorial debut with Malcolmology, a nationally broadcast six-part documentary series based on Dr. Manning Marable’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention. Tyner has been a producer consultant on several significant projects, including Netflix’s 2020 docu-series Who Killed Malcolm X? Tyner has also worked in the scripted space. He is the co-founder of Truth 2 Power Films and, with Emmy-nominated director Karim Lopez, Tyner produced 5 short films. Jake, Tyner’s scripted director debut, premiered at the Pan-African Film Festival and won awards at the San Francisco Black Film Festival and Denton Black Film Festival. Tyner went on to produce Target Is Hiring, a short film by Bronx-born award-winning director Joel Vargas. Target Is Hiring premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. Joel’s latest project, Mad Bill’s to Pay, is set to premiere at Sundance 2025. As Director of Development and Production at La Lutta Productions, Tyner has overseen the creation of numerous documentaries, including Frank Serpico and Roberta, which premiered on Hulu and American Masters’ PBS, respectively, and continue to screen globally. Tyner's most recent film, The People's Way, a poignant story about three activists fighting for justice in the wake of George Floyd's murder, premiered at DOC NYC. Currently, Tyner is developing Play Like McCoy, the story about the legendary jazz pianist McCoy Tyner.
