Steve in Kenosha, Wisconsin asked: "I live in a small apartment, about 1000 square feet. Do I really need a mesh router? I want one, but do I need one? I know you guys have talked about that they can cancel each other out if you have too many. How many is "too many"? I have two right now but I was thinking of getting a third and putting it in the living room. I'm not really having an issue with dropout or anything so I'm not sure I really need it."

Steve, if youre not having any connection issues then, no not really. Youll just be spending money for no reason.

The point of mesh networks is to create a larger area of wireless coverage. You dont get a signal in a bedroom, so you add a device to repeat the signal and extend it into the bedroom.

If you already have good coverage everywhere theres no benefit to adding more nodes.

This is one of those if you need it you already know it situations. If you have no issues using your devices anywhere then youre all set, adding more wont benefit you in any way and they are not cheap devices.

Youd be better off saving the money or treating yourself to something else youd like instead, a single mesh router will buy a whole lot of gallons of ice cream!

Mark in Jackson Lake, Georgia asked: My question concerns the announced discontinuation of support for Windows 10 starting in 2025. I have two Windows 10 Laptops. Unfortunately they are not able to update to Windows 11. They run well, have virus protection and currently meet my needs. What are your thoughts about the use of Windows 10 in the post-support era? Should I upgrade to at least one Windows 11 laptop next year, or as you say... Into Tomorrow?Mark, without Microsoft updating your operating system you will run into issues that a virus scan just wont catch. For example, BlueKeep in 2019 was a Remote Desktop Environment was a security issue that could have allowed remote attackers to run arbitrary code on your computer. BlueKeep was bad enough that Microsoft took the step of patching older systems that were past their end of life, but thats not something that can normally be expected. In 2024 Microsoft has patched at least 3 zero-day exploits affecting Windows. That wouldnt have required you to install a virus first, it was just a problem thats already baked in.Zoom, Chrome, Word and many other programs that youd use without questioning their safety have all had known 0-day exploits and at times those 0-day exploits worked exclusively on older versions of Windows.Depending on how many hoops youre willing to jump through, you could also give those computers a new lease on life by installing a supported Linux distribution on them. Linux does very well on older machines but its still not the smoothest operating system to use as a daily driver. Still installing something like Mint or Ubuntu or a myriad of other options can keep your machines running for many more years.

Our guest this show: Chef Rich Rupp, Corporate Product Training Manager - The Vollrath Company

Joe in Hazleton, Pennsylvania asked: "I have a problem with Outlook 2016. I have Windows 10 and I use Jaws 2020 - that's a screen reader - I'm blind. Darn Microsoft 2016 keeps asking for the password for my e-mail every time I open the e-mail program. And the box to remember the password isn't checked, so I check it. But a few minutes later, it still asks for the password. What the heck is wrong with that? I could use the new Outlook for Windows but I don't like that because it doesn't have a spell checker. Newer isn't always better. I'm really frustrated with it."

Joe, the last Windows 10 version will reach end of life in 2025 but Outlook 2016 reached it in 2020.

That means that Microsoft hasnt done any work on Outlook 2016 for years now and its likely that some Windows update changed the way something works in a way that wouldve required Outlook to be updated as well to continue to work as it used to.

Theres no real fix to that on closed source software like Outlook other than to upgrade.

The good news here is that the current version of Outlook should allow you to turn on spell check.

Youll find it under File, then Options, and under Mail youll find Spelling and Autocorrect settings.

Webmail typically also includes spellcheckers, so it may be another option to consider.

Rita in Miami asked: "I would like to find out what you believe to be the best jump drive to clean up my photos on my iPhone. I have thousands of pictures on my iPhone. I would like them cleaned up, I would like the doubles taken out and I don't know how to do that. It needs to be user-friendly. I'm not technically savvy."

Rita, Apple includes the ability to look for duplicate pictures in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS out of the box.

To look for duplicates on your phone, open the Photos app, then go to Albums at the bottom.

Albums will display your recent photos and albums at the top, shared albums below if you have any, people and places below that, types below that, but if you keep on going through all of that and scroll all the way to the bottom you will find Duplicates.

All of the duplicates detected by your phone will be there each with a button to merge so you dont have to track one down to delete it but can get rid of the duplicate on the spot.

If you still want a drive to move some of your pictures to, then the ones that will work for you will depend on your iPhones model.

For older ones youll want something like the SanDisk 256GB iXpand Flash Drive Go which has a Thunderbolt plug, there are also countless generics of that same kind of drive available for purchase online. Youre looking at roughly between $25 and $60 for most drives, but the larger the storage the more youll pay. Youll also pay more for brand names like SanDisk than for generics like iDiskk.

For the iPhone 15, youll be looking at the same kind of drive but with a USB-C plug instead.

John in Medina, Ohio in "I'm looking for some software that's relatively inexpensive to record webinars that stream to my computer so that I can save them and store them on an external hard drive. Basically looking for a video capture software that's pretty simple to use, and I don't really need to do any editing. Just need it to record the hour or so webinar and preserve it."

John, you may not have to spend any money to record your webinars.

If youre on a Windows machine, Windows 11 includes a tool called Xbox Game Bar which allows you to capture the screen and optionally capture the audio as well. Just make sure that you click on the gear icon, go into the settings and check that all audio sources are set to be captured.

If youre on a Mac, pressing command+option+F5 should open a screen recorder that should allow you to capture audio from the microphone.

In both cases you may need a fairly significant amount of hard drive space to store the videos, they tend to take up a lot of room and arent usually too compressed, at least as theyre being recorded.

It may be a good idea to make sure youre not breaking any laws or any company policies before you start recording anything.

Commercial webinars are likely to be copyrighted and you may technically be pirating them if you record them. If these are webinars required by your job, they may consider them confidential and may not want them recorded.

The safer first step may be to just ask if you can access a recording after the webinar, and if not if theyd be safe to record.
