The society we live in throws relentless demands upon us every day. Demands on our time. Demands on our minds. Demands on our bodies.
And too often we don’t know how to fight back, so we give in, giving up our time and our minds and our bodies to these demands and leaving little to no time for anything else, especially finding the rhythm and renewal we can only find with God.
But our tradition teaches us God makes a choice early on in the story of our faith to help us find that rhythm and renewal.
So, for the next few weeks we’re going to look at Sabbath, what it is, what it isn’t, and why we so desperately need it. I want to take a look at that choice God made early on and the folks who heeded the invitation to establish a rhythm for rest and renewal to see what we can learn from them and figure out if the way to become who we are meant to be isn’t wrapped in doing more, but in doing differently. Reorienting our relationship to time and to our work and our bodies and to life itself.
I hope you'll join me!
