Is Samwise Gamgee (The Fellowship of the Ring, 2001) a Himbo?

Himbology

The only gardener in the Fellowship, and with no great aspirations beyond marrying Rosie Cotton, there’s no denying that our boy Samwise is a sweetheart. But is he our first Hobbit Himbo?

To help us answer this meaty (or perhaps potato-y) question, we’ve enlisted the help of much-loved Australian writer and self-professed Samwise fan Alison Evans (they/them). It’ll still take us three episodes and a total runtime on par with the cinematic cut of the trilogy, but determining young Mr Gamgee’s Purity of Heart is important academic work, goddammit.

(Side-note: if you’ve listened to our most recent episode on Everything Everywhere All At Once, you’ll know that we loved having Wai-Mun on so much that we invited them to become a permanent host mid-episode. And, even better, they agreed! This series was recorded before Wai-Mun joined our ranks, but all you Wai-Muniacs will be pleased to know we’ve already got episodes with them on board that will follow our LOTR series, so your patience will be rewarded.

As always, taking you on this Himbological adventure are your hosts Ginger (she/her) and Aandhi (404 – Gender not found; any pronouns). The show is produced by Lucas Brown (he/him) – you can check out his podcast, The Math Of You, wherever good podcasts are found.
