Ithihasa India History Podcast

Welcome to Ithihasa, an Indic History Podcast that explores India’s past. I will take you back in time to examine what I think has either been overlooked or misunderstood. I want to nudge People and make them appreciate our past. Want them to be surprised by the fact that the world today isn't much different from the past. And to explore it in a way that hopefully enlightens us. This is my humble attempt to make it easier for you, to learn India's past in small yet manageable chunks and come out of it with a basic understanding that will enable you to form a coherent opinion when confronted with conflicting narratives. India's past is littered with gracious amounts of intrigue, drama, tragedy and glory. I will get my hands dirty for you, by digging through the sands of time. And together we shall unearth and look at the fascinating fossils of India’s rich, painful and glorious past. This podcast will unfold in seasons. Each season will go in depth into different periods of India's history. We will kickoff the show with the first season on the mighty Vijayanagara Empire and follow it up other exciting eras and empires that have lasting impact on the India we know today. Understand how India interacted with rest of the world in our ancient past, how warfare evolved on the subcontinent, how its culture spread & how it infused outside influence. We will go where the history books in school and TRP driven News outlets rarely go. And in the process get in touch with our own civilizational roots and identity. Hopefully we shall discover what it truly means to be an Indian.
A rare history podcast

To the point and highlights some rarely heard/taught aspects of our history. Hoping to see more seasons. Great to see the series on architecture! The content is deep and very interesting. Thank you for this invaluable podcast. It is heartening to see someone put in such quality effort into making a history podcast. I listen to it each night unfailingly while putting my son to sleep. Hoping to narrate these to him when he grows a bit older. Each time I listen to an episode, I’m tempted to add appreciation to the review.
Captured my interest - and I am not a history enthusiast

A few months ago I watched an interview where a famous celebrity said that the one thing she feels at loss always is that she knows very little about her history or heritage. That sat with me even after months and I pondered how blessed are some of us who have a treasure trove of it. This podcast reinforced that thought, once again. I was always the student who was bored in history class but I effortlessly cruised through quite a few episodes of Ithihaasa and that should say volumes ! Right from the background music to the tone of narrator to the unbiased points of view, each episode takes the listener through untold or forgotten and neglected mile posts in the sands of time. As I was listening, an illustrated animation video of Tallikota or parallel conspirings or kings, the pillage, went on in my head and I think that can happen only if there is clarity of thought from the narrator. I thoroughly enjoyed and I can only imagine the history buffs out there to have “kid in a candy store” experience.

I am not much into History but my son can spend hours together on reading history books. I started looking at few of his books and its hard to continue after few pages. I have come across this podcast which has been nicely designed with shorter audios and can easily be understood and creates interest on History of Indian. Ithihasa is on my favourite lists I always listen to when I drive, walk or running. My heartiest Congratulations to the team who spent their time in creating these wonderful podcasts and wish them good luck with more and more episodes.
