    Bill Belichick’s disastrous debut as UNC football head coach

    Well, folks, it finally happened — Bill Belichick took the field to coach UNC’s football team for the first time. After months of build-up and hype (especially surrounding his relationship with Jordon Hudson, who cold-called the gals out of the blue last month), his team lost 48-14. The TCU Horned Frogs demolished UNC, and the announcers ran out of stuff to talk about — to the point that ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit put his headset on his dog.  Madeline and Charlotte have many thoughts about how Belichick is handling the young people he’s responsible for.  There were many celebs in attendance, including NBA legend Michael Jordan, Former UNC basketball coach Roy Williams, NFL greats Lawrence Taylor, Julius Peppers, and Randy Moss, and country singers Eric Church and Chase Rice. There were many wild fan-made signs, the pre-game show felt like a living funeral, and the season couldn’t have gotten off to a rougher start!  The gals then dive into some US Open drama, including the fact that Naomi Osaka beat Coco Gauff, and actor Rami Malek talked to Condé Nast godmother Anna Wintour for three straight matches.     College football season preview, from Manning family lore to Bill Belichick’s coaching debut at UNC, with Jessica Smetana

    Madeline and Charlotte are thrilled to welcome a guest that they’ve been wanting to have on the show for a LONG time — Jessica Smetana! Jess is a sports commentator and analyst. She currently hosts The Echos podcast with Mike Golic Jr., and you may have seen her on Vice TV’s Sports Gone Wrong or on a Meadowlark Media property.  Jess and Charlotte have also been friends and colleagues for almost 10 years, and used to host The Most Valuable Podcast together (RIP).  The gals covered a lot of ground together for this college football preview. How well will Belichick and UNC actually perform this year, and will his personal life be a distraction? Why is college football historically the messiest sport?  They also discussed the lore of the Manning family (and why Archie Manning is the Kris Jenner of college football), NFL nepo babies in college football, the story of Houston Nutt, Hugh Freeze, and an escort service (yes, those are names of real people), and much more!     US Open drama (Carlos Alcaraz’s haircut, Venus Williams returns at age 45, racket smashing), Tommy Fleetwood's major moment, and Micah Parsons isn’t a company man

    This episode was supposed to be the weekly Tuesday episode of The Sports Gossip Show, but then Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got engaged, and Madeline and Charlotte had to record an emergency episode that went up yesterday instead! Go listen to it! Here we’ve got a few quick hits: Madison Beer and Justin Herbert were photographed together again, Wally the green monster performed at the Boston Jonas Brothers concert where JoJo sang wearing a Red Sox jersey, and Donna Kelce is posting about visiting historical landmarks.  Then it’s on to US Open drama: Madison Keys was upset by Renata Zarazua, Carlos Alcaraz got a confounding haircut, Venus Williams came very close to winning at age 45, and Daniil Medvedev had a complete meltdown on the court. Also, Serena Williams introduced Maria Sharapova at her Tennis Hall of Fame induction. In other country club news, Tommy Fleetwood finally won a golf major in his 164th start! And the gals learned all about his family and age-gap relationship. And in *more* country club-esq news, Bill Belichick is selling a house on Nantucket that is probably a bad investment and you shouldn’t buy it.  Also: Tom Brady is online again, Shilo Sanders was ejected from a preseason game after he punched someone and then was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Micah Parsons Cowboy’s drama over his contract with the Cowboys persists, and Paige Bueckers had an amazing 44-point night.     Tennis love triangles and US Open preview with Catherine Whitaker

    Catherine Whitaker is one of the co-hosts of The Tennis Podcast, another great show on The Athletic Podcast Network, and Madeline and Charlotte are thrilled to welcome her to the Sports Gossip Show ahead of this year’s US Open. The tennis tea has never been hotter! The gals ask Catherine everything you all want to know about this year’s upcoming American Grand Slam.     Jordon Hudson could learn from Taylor Swift, is Justin Herbert dating Madison Beer?, Michigan’s sign-stealing punishment, Shohei Ohtani’s real estate problem

    This episode starts out with Madeline and Charlotte’s affinity for the arts and a shameless request for tickets to Shakespeare In The Park. Then, a quick Jordon Hudson update, because she should take a page out of Taylor Swift’s playbook.  Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert stopped by singer Madison Beer’s photoshoot — are they dating? WNBA great Sue Bird had a beautiful statue dedicated to her in front of the Seattle Storm’s arena, and we need more bronze statues of women. Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd did a very cute podcast together, and the Golden State Valkyries have a new mascot named Violet. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer needs to scrub his Venmo history. The Browns’ quarterback drama continues, with some strange comments that rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel says he *didn’t* make about fellow-rookie QB Shedeur Sanders. The University of Michigan received its punishment for the 2023 sign-stealing scandal, and the name Connor Stalions is back in the news.
