Since the last guidelines in 2012, new therapies like belimumab and voclosporin have revolutionized treatment approaches. The new guidelines emphasize lower-dose glucocorticoid regimens, triple therapy for Class III & IV Lupus Nephritis, and frequent proteinuria monitoring to optimize patient outcomes.     Effectiveness of methotrexate and leflunomide as corticoid – sparing drugs in patients with polymyalgia rheumatica

    Danielle Gatti Palumbo, PharmD, presents a Journal Club discussion on a study evaluating the effectiveness of Methotrexate and Leflunomide as steroid-sparing drugs in patients with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR). The study found that Leflunomide was more effective than Methotrexate in achieving steroid withdrawal and remission, with patients on Leflunomide achieving steroid discontinuation more quickly. Despite both treatments showing similar tolerability, Leflunomide demonstrated superior outcomes in terms of remission and faster steroid withdrawal.
