55. Finance in the American Healthcare System
This week we explore the complexities of the healthcare finance system. I discuss the role of insurance companies as the primary customers, the importance of medication administration, staffing, and patient care, and express my concerns about financial decisions being made by those without a healthcare background.
It's a vast topic, but one that has to be covered if you're exploring the American healthcare system.

53. It's unacceptable and it can't continue
Bullying in any environment is unacceptable, but unfortunatley it is still a regular occurance in the nursing industry. On this podcast episode I speak with Andrea Dyer sharing our own insights, and exploring what more could be done to make nursing a more inclusive and supportive community.
This episode wraps up our time re-visiting the most popular episodes of year 1 with the Just Culture podcast. It's clear from the episodes we've re-visited over the past 5 weeks that a desire for a just culture in the healthcare industry is a passion of many, and I am so thankful that you all join me week in, week out to explore the ways we can do better.

52. How is it possible for this to happen?
This week we re-visit the alarming case where a medical error caused a surgeon to leave a surgical tool inside a patient's abdomen. It is so important to identify patterns of medical errors and implement necessary measures such as oversight, education, and policy development to prevent reoccurrences. And that is why this is such an important case to include in this podcast.

51. How much of the burden can Nurses take?
Having worked as nurse for so many years this is a topic that is close to my heart. As we continue to re-visit our most popular episodes it's great to see that you also found it really interesting.
In this episode I emphasized the significance of nurse-to-patient ratios in the healthcare sector, underscoring the negative impact on nurses when they are overloaded with patients. I highlighted the potential for psychological harm, burnout, errors, and substandard care, and noted that many states and national legislatures were reviewing safe staffing ratios.
As always with this topic I want to stress that the issue is not only about patient safety, but also about the welfare of nurses.

50. The unique perspective that Legal Nurse Consultants can bring to a case
This week as we continue revisiting our most popular episodes we re-visit our interview with Attorney Jack Cook. The conversation with Jack focused on personal injury and medical malpractice, emphasizing the role of legal nurse consultants in assisting attorneys. It really highlighted the unique perspective and knowledge that nurses can offer in these cases, including understanding medical jargon, processes, and systems, which can help prevent systemic errors.
I really enjoyed speaking with Jack, and i'm so glad you all gained so much from the interview as well.
