Aleksandar Hemon joins Deborah Treisman to read and discuss “Drinking Coffee Elsewhere,” by ZZ Packer, which was published in The New Yorker in 2000. Hemon, a winner of a MacArthur Fellowship and a PEN/W. G. Sebald Award, among others, is the author of eight books, including the novels “The Lazarus Project” and “The World and All It Holds,” the story collection “Love and Obstacles,” and two nonfiction works, “The Book of My Lives” and “My Parents: an Introduction.”

Cusk is a winner of the Whitbread First Novel Award and the Somerset Maugham Award, and is the author of five books of nonfiction and twelve novels, including "Arlington Park," "Outline," "Transit," "Kudos," and "Parade," which will be published in June.

He has published two story collections and two novels, “The Free World,” which was a finalist for the Governor General's Award and the Giller Prize, and “The Betrayers,” which won the National Jewish Book Award. He was also chosen as one of The New Yorker's 20 Under 40 in 2010.

Arcaterra

I love the curation of the short stories and the selection of the writers to read them. The writers bring such insight to their readings. There are so many magical moments hearing brilliant writers talk about brilliant stories in brilliant conversation with the New York fiction editor. . It is one of the most passionate, literate and insightful podcasts I have ever come across. I plan on listening to every one of them as I paint or do printmaking….the imaginary becoming real. I plan to subscribe.
Problem with Hemon episode

Great pod, but there seems to be a technical issue with the Hemon episode. There are increasingly long pauses in Hemon’s reading of the story. I think the audio file has been corrupted or not fully edited. It’s a shame because it sounds like an interesting story.

I was itching for more reading/listening material to stir the emotions. I’ve only listened to the latest episode (Love Letter), but I can already tell the itch has been scratched. Hopefully, the backlog will be enough material to keep me occupied.
