This tells the story mostly from Karen’s/her lawyer’s POV, but not much from the prosecution’s. I understand why they did that - the defense is the whole reason this case is famous, and the controversy is what is driving clicks. And on one hand, it’s refreshing to see the defense’s take, because true crime podcasts are almost exclusively from the prosecution’s POV (as is true crime media in general). But I still would have liked to hear more from the prosecution. If I am ever charged with murder though, I need a lawyer like Karen’s. I wonder if he’ll be able to do it again at the second trial now that the prosecution has seen his playbook. I do wonder why she’s being charged with murder - how could they possibly prove that? Overall I lean towards she hit him, whether accidentally or not, and I definitely don’t think there was some conspiracy inside the house, but I’m so surprised there’s no video anywhere. I thought the burbs all had video everywhere now.
Can get tedious

They put clip highlights at the beginning of the pod then replay them over and over so you never know which is the “real” broadcast. Working through the story but it could have been done in 3 or 4 pods.
So Many Questions

First, I don’t understand all the low ratings. Seems sus. Second, this is a master class on defense and creating reasonable doubt. Third, it strikes me that there was an opportunity to check for canine dna in the lacerations. The human dna seems less likely to prove anything criminal than it does that the victim was in close contact with all of the possible suspects prior to his death, which was never in question. The dog however, if canine dna was found on his body, it would blow the whole case for the prosecution as it would show John had been in the house and therefore severely undermine the testimony of the occupants and what happened that night. Karen (such an unfortunate name now) could prove her innocence instead of just not being guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Probably the worst Law and Crime show

The glee that the presenter had in demonstrating the prosecution’s errors and shortcomings was palpable. Ms. Read should be obligated to pay Wondery as part of her PR team. I hope the jury got it right with their decision.
