The subtitle is  Around the world, feminist activists have successfully combated autocracy. There are plenty of right wing foundations, which are top-down and have not made the world safer. But, as she specifies in this podcast, democratic decision-making is at the root of feminism. International grants made from a feminist playbook are more likely to lead to real national security.

Why Red and Blue White People Disagree, and How to Decide in the Gray Areas co-author Betsy Leondar-Wright, through remarkable research, found Trumpists are not all racist and sexist and not all liberals are free from racism and sexism. For example, people can look at the same picture and see different realities: as she explains how racism and sexism seem like “optical illusions.” By really understanding racism and sexism as we have not thus far, she believes much progress can be made.

    The Trashing of Tastes: When Did It Begin?

    When did politics and trash TV become one in the same? According to author Ross Benes, no question: it was the 1990s. As one reviewer said: “this book helps to explain the election of Donald Trump in ways that most strictly scholarly analyses cannot capture.” Such bizarre spectacles as were on the Jerry Springer Show connected with those millions who feel society has it out for them. They celebrated the elimination of rules. And being “deplorable” is, to these folks, a badge of honor. In the process this has enabled today’s unprecedented concentration of wealth and power.

    A Global Minimum Wage = a Stronger Worldwide Economy

    The reason we have minimum wage laws is to ensure a basic standard of living. But in America, the federal minimum wage is still what it was in 2009: $7.25. And in developing nations to which big corporations outsource jobs, it’s mere pennies. These are clearly not livable wages. Our guest Professor Lawrence Wittner argues in a widely published article it’s just sound sustainable economics to institute a world-wide minimum wage. Poverty wages do not keep foreign economies strong. And no, consumer prices don’t automatically rise with a global minimum wage.  And, in this discussion, he explains how a global minimum wage keeps jobs in America.

    Could These Guys Actually Cut Military Waste?

    It may not be as it looks. For decades, millions of Americans have urgently sought to bring sanity to the defense budget. They propose a new  nongovernmental “Dept of Government Efficiency.” And military waste is the low hanging fruit. On this show, expert William Hartung says maybe they can do what the left has not.  And this from Bernie Sanders: “Elon Musk is right. The Pentagon, with a budget of $886 billion, just failed its 7th audit in a row. It’s lost track of billions.” Talk about low hanging fruit!!
