Bringing Jobs and Hope; Expanding a Coffee Business to Empower Farmers in Asia

In this podcast Gea talks with Eric and Annebeth, a couple from the Netherlands, who are moving to Asia to expand a coffee business aimed at helping local farmers. While preparing for their move, they decided to work together with the mission organization Interserve, which supports people globally in integrating faith with their work. Because, besides helping farmers economically, they also seek ways to share their Christian faith. Their mission is not just to grow a business but to bring lasting change to the community.  Their goal is to increase the number of farmers from 250 to 1,000, improving their livelihoods by helping them grow coffee, earn a steady income, and access education and healthcare. While the project is a business, its core mission is to provide jobs and social justice. Eric brings a background in financial management, and Annebeth specializes in sustainable investing, both of which they plan to apply to make the business more sustainable. Eric and Annebeth's story highlights the importance of using professional skills in building these kind of social (BAM) businesses, and they encourage listeners to consider how they can contribute to projects with a social impact. If you'd like to connect with Eric and Annebeth, you can do so by mailing  info@bammoves.com.  There is still time to join Bill and Gea's online training 'Kingdom Mindsets for Business', the next cohort will start February 6th. 2025 (instead of January) For more info, see BAMmoves.com.

  2. Stepping into God’s Theodrama as Wounded Healers in the Marketplace

Stepping into God’s Theodrama as Wounded Healers in the Marketplace

In this episode, Gea, Bill and Mats Tunehag (Chairman of BAM Global) discuss the concept of Business as Mission and the realities of being “wounded healers” in the marketplace.  Mats emphasizes that personal struggles, whether betrayals or depression, are not disqualifiers but part of a deeper process of transformation. He refers to the Japanese art form kintsugi—repairing broken pottery with gold—to illustrate how God doesn’t merely patch up our wounds but uses them to shape us into something more beautiful and whole. Bill emphasizes that responding to challenges with prayer, forgiveness, and reliance on God leads to unexpected blessings and inner healing. Central to the conversation is the conviction that real Business as Mission arises when we shift from an ego-driven “my story” approach to seeing ourselves as participants in God’s “theodrama.” Mats notes that embracing God’s larger narrative can bring both unpredictability and peace. The notion of “tikkun olam,” or repairing the world, underscores the call for Christ-followers to bring holistic transformation—spiritually and socio-economically—to communities. Throughout the discussion, the speakers stress authenticity, vulnerability, and the power of community support. They encourage others to keep going despite setbacks, trusting that God will work through each person’s unique journey for His greater redemptive purposes. What others say about the training: "The course has been really great, it has raised my expectations of not only God's involvement in the business but raised my expectations of what a daily partnership with the Lord can look like." "So Biblical yet so different than any Sunday school seminar, Sunday morning, college ministry or missions person says or teaches!" "I loved the exercises, simple and practical. They really help to transfer what Bill shares and make it real and personal for myself."

  3. Overcoming Worry; Shifting to a Kingdom Perspective

Overcoming Worry; Shifting to a Kingdom Perspective

This episode, titled "Do Not Worry," explores teachings from the Sermon on the Mount, focusing on the idea that Jesus' commands should be viewed as directives rather than suggestions. Bill Job emphasizes that worrying is not just a personal issue but something that displeases God, hindering spiritual growth. He challenges the cultural notion that worry is a sign of responsibility, presenting it instead as a barrier to deeper faith. Bill shares his journey of adopting a kingdom worldview, which shifts focus from a self-centered perspective to one that prioritizes God's Kingdom. He explains that anxiety is not merely an individual struggle but a spiritual matter that affects one's relationship with God and participation in the cosmic battle between good and evil. Bill recounts a story from his time in China, where a friend learned to trust God for provision while imprisoned, drawing strength from the teachings about not worrying. The conversation emphasizes the importance of a three-dimensional worldview, considering God, mankind, and the enemy. Bill uses the story of Job to illustrate that suffering often stems from the larger conflict between God's Kingdom and His opponent. He encourages listeners to adopt a mindset that frustrates the enemy and pleases God, as worry can be used against God’s faithfulness. As the episode progresses, Bill reflects on how his trust in God has grown over time. Initially struggling with small things, he now relies on God’s provision in larger circumstances, confident that God will come through due to His track record of faithfulness.

  4. Bill Job: Receiving Solutions from Heaven

Bill Job: Receiving Solutions from Heaven

In this episode of the "Kingdom Keys for Business, Life and Work" podcast, Bill Job and Gea Gort explore the theme of receiving divine solutions or "downloads from Heaven." They emphasize that God can be practically involved in addressing the challenges faced at work, which can be life-changing. In this third episode on this theme, they build on their previous discussions, and delve deeper into how listeners can open themselves to receive insights from God, emphasizing that spiritual relationships should feel normal rather than "spiritual". Bill references George Washington Carver, who received profound insights into his work with peanuts, highlighting that spirituality can manifest in everyday experiences. Both hosts encourage listeners to actively listen for God's guidance, comparing it to a typical relationship where one must be attentive and responsive. They discuss the importance of not confusing personal desires with divine guidance, urging people to seek clarity from God regarding their desires and actions. Throughout the conversation, Bill shares personal stories about his journey, including how he came to terms with his identity and the implications of being "owned" by God. They stress the importance of surrendering personal agendas to align with God's purposes, reinforcing that this relationship can lead to fulfillment. By inviting listeners to engage in open dialogue with God, they aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of divine guidance and its practical application in everyday life. The episode concludes with an encouragement to embrace childlike faith in navigating the complexities of life and work.
