Well, nor is there a heaven. That means there is no heaven and there is no hell. That means there is no good and no evil. And that means there is no God. If man is a mammal like a whale or like a horse, then clearly a mistake has been made. And man is that mistake. Man is the only animal that can claim to be self-conscious. In fact man is the only self-conscious animal. Which means we are freaks, freaks who will pay for their consciousness, freaks aware they shall die, but who?
