General Mattis joined the United States Marine Corp in 1969 where he rose through the ranks to become a 4 star general. From 2007 to 2010 he commanded the United States Joint Forces Command and concurrently served as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander of Transformation. He was Commander of United States Central Command from 2010 to 2013 and most recently served as the 26th United States Secretary of Defense from January 2017 through December 2018. He has a book being published Sept. 3 2019 called “Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead.”
