    Jordan Peterson

Dr. Jordan Peterson has been in the news recently so Jake & Brett discuss the situation and what they appreciate about Dr. Peterson. They share the lessons they have learned from Jordan in regards to culture, faith, fathering & more. While Dr. Peterson isn’t perfect, our hosts share that he is still one of the best thought leaders we have in our modern day. Key Points Jordan Peterson has been in the news because the regulatory body that governs counselors in Ontario is sanctioning him based on complaints they received. He is fighting against these sanctions This case is concerning for the right to free speech and restriction of non-government approved thoughts on topics like faith and morality. Jordan is a master of critiquing culture. He argues against arguments becoming simple dichotomies. Being radically in the middle is a rare but good place to be. The importance of staying calm in the midst of backlash. Jordan is a good example of fathering people who aren’t your children. Jake & Brett share examples Men need to be dangerous, but good.   Connect with Way of the Heart: Facebook: @wayoftheheartpodcast Instagram: @wayoftheheartpodcast Website: www.wayoftheheartpodcast.com   References -Big Yellow Coffee -Brett’s Blog on Frodo being reluctant hero that Jordan Peterson retweeted -Brett’s Blog on Jordan Peterson   Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now! Can We Get Serious Now?

Brett shares a quote from the movie “Sully” that really struck him: “Can we get serious now?” He and Jake discuss that as a culture and as men, we need to start focusing on what really matters and not the frivolous matters that often keep our attention. This leads to tackling issues such as being too hard on ourselves, not challenging ourselves enough and learning from our mistakes. It’s a great conversation for any man who struggles with stress, self-doubt & complacency. Key Points “Can we get serious now?” is a quote from the movie Sully about the miracle on the Hudson that caught Brett’s attention. As a culture and as men, we need to start focusing on what really matters and not the frivolous matters that often keep our attention. We need to factor in normal human error into our own failings and stop beating ourselves up. Taking on difficult endeavors is admirable and we need to adjust our expectations of ourselves accordingly. We need to apply some common sense combined with deeper thinking into hot button issues in our culture. If you’re not getting the results you want, look at the underlying excuses you’re making or where you may be turning your focus on to things that aren’t helping you get those results. If we haven’t learned from our mistakes, we are bound to repeat them in the future. We don’t need to become holy before we come to Jesus, we need to come to Jesus as we are so He can help us grow in holiness.   Connect with Way of the Heart: Facebook: @wayoftheheartpodcast Instagram: @wayoftheheartpodcast Website: www.wayoftheheartpodcast.com   References -Big Yellow Coffee   Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now!
