As an international leader in the emerging field of Developmental Medicine, Dr. Matthew Holder has spent 20 years advocating on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) for better quality health services. Dr. Holder is the CEO and Co-Founder of Kramer Davis Health – a patient care, teaching and research organization that has set the national standard for providing high-quality, broadly-integrated transdisciplinary healthcare to people with IDD. He is the President of the American Board of Developmental Medicine, Past-President and Co-Founder of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD), and he served for 16 years as the Global Medical Advisor and Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for Special Olympics International.
Dr. Holder has educated thousands of healthcare providers and healthcare officials from nearly every state and over 150 countries, including several U.S. Presidents, Governors, Surgeons General, and members of Congress.

Dr. Joshua Ryan Smith of The MEND Research Clinic at Vanderbilt dispels stigma and explores nuances of Catatonia in Profound Autism and related disorders.

Dr. Smith discusses symptoms of catatonia which are specific to pediatric and neurodiverse populations, increasing the difficulty in making the diagnosis. He also reviews treatment algorithms including medication management and electroconvulsive therapy.

Dr. Joshua Ryan Smith’s primary research interest is in bridging the gap between clinical trial research and clinical care. His specific areas of interest include use of transcranial magnetic stimulation in autism, catatonia in neurodevelopmental conditions, consult-liaison psychiatry in children’s hospitals, and electroconvulsive therapy. Dr. Smith serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the following journals: Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, as well as Brain and Behavior. At the national level, Dr. Smith participates in the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Psychopharmacology and Neurotherapeutics Workgroup (AACAP).
Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. He is the Medical Director of the MEND Clinic at Vanderbilt and of Neuromodudulation Service at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital.
