Pilgrim Songs: My Help Comes from the Lord - Pt. 2

Whether it is a cute, cuddly kids’ story like Homeward Bound, or a grand, sweeping fantasy epic like The Lord of the Rings, stories involving a journey always resonate with us.
 
In each of us is a sense that we are going somewhere. We know that wherever we are is not our final destination. Therefore we connect with a tale, whether epic or ordinary, of someone who is journeying home.

For this reason, the Psalms of Ascent speak to us. A small book of fifteen psalms within the book of Psalms, these were the hymns and prayers sung and prayed by ancient Israelites as they journeyed to worship God in his holy temple. Songs of both lament and praise, they convey the real and raw challenges and triumphs of the journey of life. Most importantly, they show us the way to walk as we journey through this life and toward our heavenly home.
