Exiles: 1 Peter 5:5-11 | Week 20 - Alex Wood

Life Church | Salisbury NC Sermons

The Apostle Peter wrote the letter we call 1 Peter while persecution against Christians was simmering in and around ancient Rome. He wanted his readers to be prepared for hard things to come, and he sought to prepare them by reminding them of their identity as the chosen people of God, living as exiles in a world of suffering.

We continue our series in 1 Peter looking at 1 Peter 5:5-11.

Three Action Steps We Should Pursue as we Wait for the Return of Christ:

  1. Be humble.
  2. Be on guard.
  3. Be encouraged.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:3-6

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
