About Donna White: Donna White is a seasoned expert in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy with over 30 years of experience. As the founder of the BHRT Training Academy, author of "The Hormone Makeover," and a pioneer in establishing BHRT programs, she has played a pivotal role in advancing hormone health. Her expertise is augmented by her personal journey with hormonal imbalance, rendering her a compassionate authority in this field. Donna's unique approach lies in her ability to translate complex medical information into digestible content, making her a sought-after speaker, educator, and consultant. Her training academy has revolutionized the way medical practitioners approach hormone therapy, leading to significant improvements in patient care and practice growth. What We Discuss In this Episode: In this episode, Donna opens up about her struggle with severe PMS symptoms in her 20s and how it motivated her to find answers, ultimately transforming her life with bioidentical hormone therapy. She sheds light on the widespread confusion surrounding hormones, debunking myths like the misconception that they cause health issues such as cancer. Donna clarifies the critical differences between bioidentical, synthetic, and animal-derived hormones, explaining why bioidentical options—molecularly identical to those produced by the body—are a safer and more effective choice. Donna dives deep into the common signs of hormone imbalance, including fatigue, sleep issues, mood swings, weight gain, and skin changes, and stresses the importance of proper testing to uncover root causes. She explains the pros and cons of various hormone testing methods, such as saliva, dried urine, serum, and capillary blood spot, emphasizing the need to monitor cortisol levels accurately. Donna also highlights how hormone balance is essential at every stage of life, showing how declining hormone levels can contribute to age-related diseases and sharing research that supports hormone replacement therapy for improved longevity and health. Additionally, Donna addresses fears about hormones and breast cancer, citing evidence that hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can be protective and even improve outcomes for those diagnosed. She offers practical advice for finding qualified healthcare providers, from evaluating testing protocols to consulting compounding pharmacists and hormone testing labs. LLN Episode #274: Dr. Michaela Robbins – How to Find the Best Way to Address Anti-Aging in Menopause

About Dr. Michaela Robbins: Dr. Michaela Robbins is a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Board-Certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, and founder of East x West Med. She has over a decade of experience in medicine with a background in hormone health, longevity health, functional and lifestyle medicine. Dr. Robbins received her master’s and doctoral training at Columbia University and has completed additional training through the Hormone Health Institute, the Institute of Functional Medicine and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Prior to founding East x West Med, she led functional wellness direct patient care as well as the longevity coaching program at Modern Age, Upper East Side, NYC. After turning down an offer at one of the largest hormone health companies, Dr. Robbins aimed to start a company that fused boutique longevity medicine with approachable and compassionate care.  At East x West Med, Dr. Robbins sees patients in New York, New Jersey, and Florida focused on health optimization and hormone balance. She also has advised many healthtech startups in the wellness space and is currently the primary in-house medical consultant for Truemed Payments. She is  published in several accredited research journals and has authored and co-authored several textbook chapters focused on diagnosis and management of chronic disease and Doctor of Nursing practices. Dr. Robbins pulls from different areas of medicine to offer people an individualized approach and help people become wellness-focused instead of disease-focused. What We Discuss In This Episode: Dr. Robbins discusses the common misconception that "anti-aging" is achievable, when, in reality, aging is a natural process that cannot be fully reversed. She emphasizes the importance of managing expectations and focusing on feeling your best at each stage, rather than trying to turn back the clock. Embracing the aging process is key. Dr. Robbins explains that addressing aging and menopause requires a multi-factorial approach, not a single "magic" solution. Key elements include lifestyle (diet, exercise, stress management), hormone balance (not just estrogen, but also testosterone), and targeted therapies/supplements. She stressed the need for a personalized plan based on each individual's needs and goals. Many women experience symptoms of low testosterone as they age, but this is often overlooked or misunderstood. Dr. Robbins discussed how to assess testosterone levels and the various treatment options, including lifestyle changes, supplements, and bioidentical testosterone therapy. She emphasized the importance of working with a provider who specializes in women's hormones. Dr. Robbins' top recommendations for women navigating menopause and aging are: 1.    Don't just accept the symptoms - seek out professional help to address the underlying issues, and 2.    Build a support network of other women going through similar experiences. Having that community and accountability can make a big difference. LLN Episode #273: Dee Davidson, FDN-P – Confidently and Successfully Navigate Your Way Through Menopause

About Dee Davidson: With over two decades of experience in functional health, Dee has dedicated my career to empowering women to thrive through a holistic approach to well-being. Dee is a seasoned functional health practitioner who is deeply passionate about guiding women on their wellness journey, addressing root causes of health concerns, and promoting optimal vitality through personalized protocols. Dee's extensive expertise encompasses a comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between lifestyle, nutrition, hormones, and overall health, allowing her to support women in achieving lasting wellness and vitality. Dee Davidson is the Founder of CLY, life-altering health coaching that includes fitness training, nutrition, biohacking, functional diagnostic testing, and mindset. You can tune into her podcast "Confidently Balance Your Hormones."   What We Discuss In This Episode: Dee shares her passion for working with women in this season of life. She shares her own journey of hormone issues since age 17. She started to learn about hormones through her infertility journey and began connecting things like food, stress, environmental factors, and even the products that we put on our body and never even thought about.  And then the second stage of her hormone health journey was post-kids.  She was always a very petite fit, worked out – even enjoyed exercise – but noticed she had a really hard time losing weight, being 50 pounds heavier than her usual weight. Hormonal changes are a natural cycle of life. Women's hormones decline as we age, and it's important to understand how we can support our body. We also need to remember our hormones are still doing something even past menopause.  Dee shares how it’s important to note that your hormones are, what she calls,  the electrical panel. They are signals of other dysfunctions in your body.  Your hormones control your brain, your nervous system, your thyroid, your adrenals, your reproductive system, your metabolism, as well as insulin.  And when we get to perimenopause and menopause, and our hormones start to decline, it affects women on a lot of levels.  Many women experience brain fog, and they have more fatigue, because their body just doesn't have that hormone-vital reserve to combat all of the stressors. We discuss weight during this phase of life. This is a huge piece in the hormone menopausal phase. Dee believes the body wants to release weight, but stress is a big factor keeping that from happening. Also, it may be surprising to know that most women aren't eating enough food, so their body will store more fat, and then you become insulin resistant.  So, watching your food intake and making sure you're having enough protein is important. Dee also discusses the importance of strength training. That doesn’t mean hours at the gym and having to engage in CrossFit. We can use resistance bands or even practice yoga or Pilates. There are so many ways to build muscle. Dee then discusses the importance of cortisol. We become chronically fatigued, have those afternoon crashes, or we're not sleeping well because we're actually not producing that cortisol anymore - and then we can go into adrenal fatigue. Dee also talks about managing your stress. You don't have to take 30 or 60 minutes of time to manage your stress.  Dee gives us some quick tips on things that we can do so we can help manage our stress. Dee gives us a few tips in closing to help us thrive in menopause and midlife. 1.    Physical: Regulate and get your blood sugar under control.  Blood sugar isn’t just eating candy and cookies and things, there's a lot involved 2.    Vitality: Preventative health. Don’t ignore your own intuition. 3.    Advocate: It's okay to be an advocate for your health. It's okay to seek support in different areas that maybe you haven't checked out before   Free Resource from Dee Davidson: 11 Ways to Release Weight & Preventive Health Tips: http://bit.ly/45UsiAX   Connect With Dee DavidsonL Website: https://confidentlyloveyourself.com   Connect with Lynne: If you're looking for a community of like-minded women on a journey - just like you are - to improved health and wellness, overall balance, and increased confidence, check out Lynne's private community in The Energized Healthy Women's Club. About Lynn Weimer: Lynn Weimar, MSN, has a passion and mission to transform the lives of women beyond fifty who struggle with emotional eating, food addictions, and obesity. Having struggled with similar issues herself, she has combined her previous healing process and mindset work with her experience as an RN and research as an MSN to bring hope and freedom to people of all ages. Lynn is the founder of Be Fit Beyond Fifty and author of Be Free Beyond Fifty.   What We Discuss In This Episode: Lynn discusses her abrupt transition into midlife after leaving a 30-year marriage. She found herself as a single mom, working a low-paying job, and struggling to care for her own health and wellbeing amidst the stress and challenges. This led to weight gain and a sense of feeling cast aside and irrelevant as an older woman. Lynn explains how the feelings of worthlessness and loss of identity during midlife can drive women to use food for emotional comfort and coping. She shares how cutting out sugar and processed foods, and instead focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods, was transformative for regaining her energy, vitality, and sense of self-worth. Lynn emphasizes the importance of cultivating a positive mindset and vision for the future, rather than getting caught up in short-term cravings. She recommends making small, sustainable changes that gradually reprogram the brain and taste preferences. Incorporating joyful physical activity is also key for boosting energy and confidence. Lynn shares how she went from a state of hopelessness and wishing for her life to end, to now competing in Iron Man triathlons and feeling healthier, stronger, and more joyful than ever before.
