Locked On Marlins POSTCAST: ('LIVE') Marlins Pounce On 1st-Place Brewers, Win Series Opener 6-2
The Miami Marlins opened up their nine-game road trip the best way possible, jumping on the NL-Central Leading Milwaukee Brewers for five runs in the first two innings on the way to an easy 6-2 win in Milwaukee.
Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run home run and Jake Burger hit a solo shot ins the top of the first inning, as the Marlins jumped out in front of the first-place Brewers early and never looked back in this series opener. J
osh Bell added a solo homer in the ninth for the Marlins, who also scored two runs in the second inning on an error by Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
Burger, Bell, De La Cruz, and Nick Fortes had two hits apiece for the Marlins, and Jazz Chisholm scored twice, wreaking havoc on the bases.
Trevor Rogers (2-9) pitched 5 1/3 innings for Miami, earning his first win since May, and the first by a Marlins starting pitcher since early June. Rogers gave up both Brewers runs on six hits. The Marlins bullpen took over from there, with three relievers combining to toss 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Rhys Hoskins homered for Milwaukee, and Jackson Chourio added two hits. -

Locked On Marlins POSTCAST: ('LIVE') Marlins Score 3 in the 9th, Fall to O's 7-6 to Extra Innings
Looking for the sweep over the best team in the American League, the Marlins came all the way back from a 6-0 deficit- scoring three times in the bottom of the ninth- only to fall 7-6 in ten innings in the series finale.
Josh Bell's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at six, with O's center fielder Colton Cowser making a great play to cut the ball off in the gap and stop Jazz Chisholm, Jr., from scoring the winning run and finishing off the sweep.
Ryan Mountcastle drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the 10th, the first run the Orioles had scored since the 4th, and it was only because of the new rule with the runner on 2nd base to start the inning in extras.
The Orioles (61-41) have have lost eight of their last eleven games, but they still have a two-game lead over the also-struggling New York Yankees in the AL East.
Minus a shaky outing from starter Roddery Munoz (no decision) in today's game, the Marlins (37-66) were great this whole series. Munoz gave up all six of the O's runs, on six hits, in 5 innings. The Orioles tagged him for three homers after putting up just one extra-base hit in the first two games. They've hit an MLB-leading 160 homers this season.
Anthony Santander's 28th dinger got the O's on the board in the first. Cowser added a three-run shot in the third, and Connor Norby added a solo shot to lead the Baltimore attack.
Bell hit a solo shot in the sixth to get Miami on the board. Xavier Edwards hit an RBI single and scored on Bryan De La Cruz's RBI double to make it 6-3 in the eighth inning, setting the stage for the bottom of the ninth.
The Marlins got to O's closer Craig Kimbrel (5th blown save, 28 chances) in the ninth. Nick Gordon's one-out single and a pair of walks brought Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the plate. Jazz drove in a run with a grounder that shortstop Gunnar Henderson booted, then Edwards' sacrifice fly knocked in a run, followed by Bell's bullet in the right-center field gap that scored Gordon from 2nd to tie the game with two outs. Chisholm- who repped the winning run- was held at third base, and Yennier Cano, who got the win to go to 4-2, struck out De La Cruz to end the inning.
Cionel Pérez struck out two Marlins in a perfect 10th for his second save. Orioles starter Corbin Burnes allowed three runs on six hits, striking out five in 7 1/3 innings, a season-high. -
Locked On Marlins POSTCAST: ('LIVE') Bell, Chisholm Lead Marlins Past Baltimore Orioles 6-3 ('LIVE')
Jazz Chisholm, Jr.'s two-run double broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the red-hot Miami bullpen took it from there, as the Marlins beat the AL East leading Orioles for the second straight night at Loan Depot Park.
Josh Bell had two hits, including his eleventh home run, Xavier Edwards went 3-3 with an RBI, Nick Gordon went 1-1 with an RBI, and Brian De La Cruz added an RBI single for the Marlins, 37-65.
Edward Cabrera went 5 1/3 innings, allowing all three runs on just three hits, striking out six and walking four. Cabrera left with the bases loaded and a 3-0 lead, but Colton Cowser greeted Hector Brazoban with a bases-clearing double to tie the game and give Cabrera the tough-luck no-decision.
Tanner Scott pitched another 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his 18th save for Miami, with Andrew Nardi and Calvin Faucher each pitching a scoreless inning as well.
The Marlins scored three runs in the fourth inning off Orioles Rookie Chase McDermott, making his MLB debut.
Cowser had two hits and three RBI's for the Orioles, who have just one extra-base hit in the first two games of this series.
The two teams wrap up this three-game series tomorrow, with Miami's Roddery Munoz (1-5) facing Baltimore's Corbin Burnes. (10-4) First pitch is at 12:10 pm ET.

Platoons
Curious to see if you have a take on the 2023 Marlins and platoons. Segura has historically hit lefties well. Wendle has historically hit righties well. Jesus Sanchez hits righties well. There isn’t a huge sample size, but it could be assumed Bryan de la Cruz would hit lefties well. Both Soler and Avisail have historically crushed lefties and not faired as well against righties. I don’t have anybody specific in mind but would like to see us sign a few guys in the Seth Smith mold (guys who have crushed righties exclusively in their careers). It could be a sneaky way of getting an 800+ ops out of 2 or 3 positions. It would be a shame to pay 30 million for Avi and Soler to only play against lefties, but I’d rather admit a mistake and do what’s best for the team. What are your thoughts on this?
