Why did Jesus have to suffer? He lived a life of perfect love—loving God completely and loving others without fail. Yet, He faced unimaginable pain and death. Why? Because His way of love clashed so deeply with the brokenness of the world that it couldn’t be tolerated. The way of Jesus stood in stark contrast to the systems of power and self-interest, and the world’s response was to try and destroy him. But what does that mean for us today? If loving like Jesus led to His suffering, what should we expect when we choose to walk in His footsteps?
