Episode 23: Hey, Whipple, Get a Load of This Copywriting Insight
You’ll definitely believe in the power of the written word after listening to this month’s episode of Marketing Then & Now. Inspired by the advertising bible, Hey, Whipple, Squeeze This, associate creative director (and previous senior copywriter) John Vogel shares his philosophy and personal approach to copywriting. He discusses how it has changed over the years, including his take on the wonderful world of AI – like Jasper.ai, an AI copywriting tool. Packed full of dad jokes and clever puns (ones that won’t make your eyes roll), you won’t want to miss this insightful and delightful episode.
Episode 22: The Importance of Corporate Philanthropy & Giving Back to Your Community
In this episode of Marketing Then & Now, we take a detour from bottom lines and ROIs to focus on doing good. Our guest this episode is Laura Spaulding, Bozell’s director of corporate communications, who talks about our 100 years of “paying rent for the space we occupy on this earth”—a credo our founder Morris Jacobs embodied decade after decade. Listen and be inspired as Laura shares examples of how Bozell and its employees have made a lasting impact – from our work with Boys Town in the 1930s to our Free Ad Day celebrating our 95th anniversary to our current work with Make-A-Wish Nebraska – proving that, when businesses give back, it betters the community, your employees and society as a whole.
Episode 21: How and Why to Build a Brand With ‘Giving Back’ at The Core
There are plenty of small business owners who know the pain of shutting down a brick and mortar due to high costs. But, if you’re Sarah Spitsen, founder and chief candle lady at Feya Co., you start a new company the very next day with a newfound mission: to do business “the right way.” In this episode of Marketing Then & Now, our special guest Sarah shares her journey from defeat to success. She talks us through how putting quality products over profit and letting your mission guide everything you do can create a loyal community of customers and lead to a prosperous brand. (And she even shares her story about how she got invited to promote her candles at The Oscars, which you won’t want to miss.)
Episode 20: 2022 Predictions – The Ad Industry Pre, During and Post Pandemic
The pandemic has made a substantial impact on the marketing and advertising industry, that’s no secret. But in this episode of Marketing Then & Now, we sit back down with one of Bozell's owners, Kim Mickelsen, to get her take on the past couple of years, as well as her predictions for what’s to come. Having personally seen our agency survive three major crises during her 20 years of ownership, she offers a unique perspective on the matter. So listen in as she shares commerce stats, past experiences, and helpful insights on where we go from here.
Episode 19: Revealed – The Secrets to Successful Storytelling
Creating content has been a topic of discussion in marketing for years now but how exactly has it changed over time? Why is storytelling still so important? How do you draw in a consumer and get them to continue reading? How do you measure success? On this episode of Marketing Then & Now, all of these questions (and more) are answered by our resident podcast interviewer and manager of content, Jim Minge. We’ve flipped the script and put him in the hot seat this time around in order to truly get to the bottom of content in today’s market. Tune in as he defines and explains what content is, why it’s more important than ever before, and how he gets to the big ideas that lead to engaging content people love to consume.
Episode 18: How to Effectively Navigate Today's Digital Media Landscape
With the state of the third-party cookie changing drastically, marketers can’t ignore the inevitable shift in the digital media landscape. On this episode of Marketing Then & Now, we sit down with Rod Coleman, Bozell’s head of paid media, as he talks us through those changes – specifically with Facebook, Google and YouTube. He explains how businesses can still benefit from advertising on these platforms, and he shares effective media tactics and targeting strategies that will help you hit your primary KPIs. And bonus: Rod gives his prediction on the next big thing that’s coming down the media pipeline. So you won’t want to miss this episode.
I enjoy the variety of marketing topics this podcast covers and the way the host and the guests break things down so they are easy to understand.
Easy, Informative Listen
I like how easily digestible this marketing podcast is. I learn, but I’m not overly bombarded with jargon and 100 new trends I have to learn about and retain in 20 min. Sometimes podcasts try to pack in too much. This is perfect. As a marketing professional, I thought it sparked some great thought-starters for me. Plus, I laughed quite a few times, so I appreciate that it’s not another dry, boring marketing podcast.
