Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman is one of the world’s most successful authors. And one of the most loved. His works have been adapted for film, TV and the stage. Now two women, a former nanny and a fan, allege he sexually assaulted and abused them while they were in consensual relationships with him. He strenuously denies all the allegations. Thoughtful but a bit repetitive
9月1日
I applaud these journalists for their thoughtful and thorough exploration of such a sensitive and nuanced topic. The earlier episodes have a tendency to be repetitive—there will be audio of an interviewee saying something and then the hosts repeat it verbatim as if the audience didn’t just hear the person say it themselves. I’m guessing this is an editing novice issue because it decreases as the episodes progress. I still recommend the podcast—Gaiman’s behavior is disappointing, hypocritical, and predatory. His legacy deserves to be tarnished.
All true, all deception

As an older man I hear this story with horror… I was once young. I was once in a relationship where I was taken advantage of. Nothing is as simple as black and white consent/refusal. You both consent to and are horrified by what’s happening. You feel trapped and that the easiest way out is through. After, you feel like you might as well just accept that this is the way things are, but that doesn’t mean you like it. I’m an old-school fan of Gaiman, and now feel more than conflicted about him. My heart breaks for this girl. From what I know about Neil and Amanda’s relationship… absolutely none of this surprised me. I always felt there was an Epstein/Maxwell vibe there. Both spoke out publicly about “rape” and women’s rights, both were into domination and humiliation. Amanda procured girls for Neil during and after their relationship. She’s as guilty as he is, and if the victim here scours her memory, I bet she’d realize that her naked times with Amanda are not as innocent as she thinks. She was being vetted. I won’t blame the girl. I hear her seemingly contradictory statements and recognize the trauma responses she was experiencing. I, too, use humor to deflect the pain my aunt caused me in her perversions. It’s a way of staying sane, but ultimately self-harm. My ultimate, likely socially unacceptable reaction: BDSM and the like need to be considered aberrant behavior. It’s a perversion and agreeing to it is self harm, as bad as cutting.

What a fascinating podcast. Presenting both sides of the story, while figuring out that there aren’t really two sides, makes for a thoughtful and comprehensive report. My only complaint is that the male host rhymes “says” with “stays”. But “says” actually rhymes with “sez”. Distracting!
Thought Provoking

At the risk of being attacked I still must share it’s my opinion that - Clare especially - bears some responsibility.
