Melancholy, but oddly sweet
04/06/2016
Melancholy, but oddly sweet account of a mortician who protects his village from a great evil, even as most of its inhabitants turn against him. Set in a period of strictly coded behavior that could either be the past or the future, the undertaker does what he must, not only for the sake of the village, but for his family's appointed position and role in this world. Calm and restrained narration accompanied by nostalgic and mournful music that suits the tone of the story.
Second Listen Thoroughly Enjoyable!

I really love "Assam and Darjeeling" and had listened to "Matters" last year when it came out. I decided to give it another listen as I could not quite remember parts of the plot. Happily, I came out the other side wanting more. This story is more haunting, and I have many questions for the author that I hope will be answered in later books. The idea of solitude in a small town is not completely lost on me, and the fact of this story taking place in the past, perhaps the far past, is something that really draws my attention. Hooray for T.M. Camp! Please write more for us to read and listen to.
