Men of Iron Podcast - A Well-Rounded Approach to Mentorship (EP. 188) Featuring Travis Albanesius
Travis Albanesius is back on the pod as we continue our Mentorship Series for the month of September. Last week we talked about the key to being a great mentor. This week Travis shares some stories of mentorship in his own life and how to take a well-rounded approach. A lot of men will say YES to mentorship, if you have the courage to ask. Grab breakfast or coffee with a man who is a season or two ahead of you. I learned early in my career how to take a balanced approach to mentorship. When we get to that deeper level of relationship with a mentor, that's where discipleship happens. Who are the top 2-3 leaders that you have deep respect for that you could grab coffee with?

The Key to Being a Great Mentor Featuring Travis Albanesius (EP. 187)
Travis Albanesius is back on the pod as we continue our Mentorship Series for the month of September. Last week we defined mentorship as the influence, guidance or direction given by a mentor or teacher given to a protege. Right before Jesus ascended back to heaven he looked at His disciples and said, “Go and make disciples.” The world needs more Christian mentors. This week we are going to talk about the key to being a great mentor. Here is the key, if you want to be a great mentor, first you have to be a great protege. Before Jesus’ disciples were called to go out and make disciples on their own, they followed and learned from Jesus for 2-3 years. They needed to be sharpened and prepared, and we are no different. Being a great protege takes work, it takes being committed. If we could see the potential fruit that it could bear in our lives, we would be all in! You can be a great godly mentor, but first you have to be a great protege.

Are You Intentional About Mentorship? Featuring Travis Albanesius (EP. 186)
Travis Albanesius takes over the pod for the month of September as we begin our series on Mentorship. Mentorship is the influence, guidance or direction given by a mentor or teacher. As Christian men, we all recognize an important need to raise up Christian leaders. We as followers of Christ are called to be intentional about mentorship. Raising up leaders takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of energy and it takes a lot of effort. We are busy doing a lot of really good things, but we are not intentional at doing the very best things. What we choose to be intentional about says a lot about who we are. What are the top 2-3 things that you are intentional about right now? Jesus was passionate about developing leaders, He was passionate about mentorship. Men, let's be intentional about inviting others to follow you as you follow Jesus. Intentional about investing in the young men around you. Let's be intentional about mentorship.

Is Your Fitness Becoming an Idol? Featuring Justin Watkins (EP. 185)
Justin Watkins is back on the pod for the final week of our Fitness & Health Series. Last episode we were at the pitch of the climb, which means you’re seeing progress in your goals and expanding the reach of your goals. So as you get closer to the summit, your knowledge, experience and habits have become more second nature to you. Others around you know you as a guy who cares about his health. At this stage of the climb fitness can easily become an idol rather than the means to your adventure of knowing God and pursuing your purpose. Yes, your fitness matters because you are a temple of the Holy Spirit. You were bought at a great price, so honor God with your body.
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Assessing Your Fitness Journey Featuring Justin Watkins (EP. 184)
Justin Watkins is back on the pod as dive into Week 3 of our Fitness & Health Series. Last week we talked about how to start your fitness journey and provided some practical first steps. Remember, it's important to focus on the physical part of your fitness journey, but do not neglect the spiritual, emotional and mental components as well. Today I want to talk to the guy who is already on the climb of his fitness journey, maybe on the mountain just above the tree line. You've been committed to some new fitness routines for a season or two. This part of the climb is beyond the early stage of working through those pressing pain points of your initial goals and health needs. Remember, it takes at least 90 days of consistency in a habit or routine before you should be evaluating the progress. At this point, your fitness efforts are becoming a more natural part of who you are, rather than something you’re striving to do. This is going from, “I want to work out” to having a mindset of, “I am a person who works out,”
So we are at the pitch of the mountain, and you’re here to pause for a bit and assess the journey. Here are 3 reasons why:
#1 - You are now ready and need to go deeper into the spiritual and emotional dynamics related to your fitness journey
#2 - You need to look back down the mountain and celebrate the progress you’ve made
#3 - Perhaps the climb is getting weary and you need to check off those first two reasons in order to refocus your vision and refresh your energy to get moving
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Men so Need this
While I have not gotten started yet on my Mentorship/Protege process, this ministry is super encouraging and I am thrilled to see this kind of focus.
While I have a strong desire to mentor other men, I’m taking a protege role to experience that side of things for the next year, before becoming a mentor.
This podcast is very helpful, gives practical advice and is adjusting and flexible as it grows!
Check them out!
