Service On Celluloid
A podcast from The National WWII Museum analyzing how World War II has been depicted on film.
Wished they would’ve done Thin Red Line.

It could’ve been another insightful episode. Since the movie was also set on Guadalcanal.
Fun and informative

I wish someone at the museum would revive this podcast. It’s perfect for my WWII (university) class.
Great stuff!

I really enjoy this podcast and look forward to playing all of them.
Awesome Podcast - Not Just For History Buffs

The discussions of the movies are a good balance of historian and film critic, and are as entertaining as the films themselves. These folks aren’t shy, but they don’t nitpick. They also provide good background details.
Thank you for the great podcast

First, good luck Seth in your new position. For those of you who haven’t listened to this podcast, do so, it is a great series-interesting, informative, and entertaining.
(Updated 7/2020) A fantastic podcast from the professionals
28/07/2020
(Update) As of July 2020, this podcast is sunsetted as the host is moving on from the WWII Museum. That said it is a brilliant podcast as worth a listen to if for no other reason than to get the reviews. Safe travels Mr. Paridon. This podcast is a joy to listen to. I am both an educator and a WWII buff who enjoys the cinema versions of the war as well as showing selected films to my students. This podcast is excellent as historians actually pull apart the films for accuracy and entertainment value given its subject matter. I have yet to find a disagreement with any verdict of the films reviewed. Although, like most people, I have my favorites too. Subscribe as fast as you can.
A Must for Any Movie Fan
17/07/2020
There are dozens of films that take place during World War II. Some are great, some are a bust. In the podcast “Service on Celluloid”, Seth Paridon of the National World War II Museum, serves as moderator for a discussion of the better known, and some lesser known, films. For each, he assembles a group of individuals with expertise not only in World War II, but also in the specific subject(s) covered in each film. A lively discussion ensues giving the historically accurate and inaccurate aspects of each movie. A week after broadcast, Mr. Paridon provides a short follow-up. These episodes tell the factual story of the events portrayed in the film and often use audio recordings from the museum’s collection. I highly recommend this podcast to all who have an interest in film, in World War II, or both.
General comment

The series is very interesting and the choice of movies a quite eclectic. As a suggested additional film? Sophie’s Choice? It’s as much about the war as League of Their Own or the Pianist I would like to hear your panel’s take. It’s almost as hard to watch as Schlinder’s List.
Are you coming back? The last podcast was April?
