Monuments Woman
Indiana Jones was a woman. Join host George Gavrilis as American archaeologist Laura Tedesco takes us on her 11-year journey to help save Afghanistan's cultural treasures from looters, earthquakes, and the Taliban. The making and release of the podcast took place during an intense time, from Summer 2021 during the U.S. and NATO troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, through the August 2021 Taliban takeover and the subsequent months.

I’ve never had such an amazing front row seat to the preservation of cultural heritage, let alone a front seat to such compelling inside knowledge to what it is to work for The US State Department in such an interesting capacity. Laura Tedesco presents her experiences and challenges with a resilience and a compassion that it opened a whole new door to knowing more about Afghanistan and its meaningful culture than I had ever considered before. This amazing journey opened my eyes to importance of the preservation of culture in the midst of conflict and upheaval. I am so grateful to have taken the journey and listened to all of the episodes!
